Yes. It will be manufactured in India.

Kris,
Thanks for your comments. Final retail pricing is still TBD, but will certainly be below the INR 460 average cost of constructing a junction box (see www.mdws.gov.in/handbook-technical-options-site-sanitation).
We do plan to establish distribution in Nepal, and will someday have urinals available. The vision is for SATO to be the first complete brand of bathroom products for off-grid, developing country applications.
Jim.

Re: New SATO Connection System for Twin-Pit Pour Flush Latrines
Thanks to both for your comments.
Dean is correct. There is no no issue flushing through a straight, 110mm pipe of 1-2m in length. This is the big advantage of the system. It allows the twin pit latrine to be constructed with short, straight pipes - no bends or junctions to develop clogs.
It could also be applied with vermifiltration, but the intended application is twin composting pits. We also have a single outlet system launching in September, which is very well suited for vermifiltration, septic tanks, etc. See attached image.

Even low flush/pour flush can be conveyed short distances in pipes, provided the slope is just right (not too steep AND not too shallow...). They have got the distance and slope right, this looks excellent. I love the mechanism for switching from one pit to the other. Are they pits or have they figured out vermifiltration?

Re: New SATO Connection System for Twin-Pit Pour Flush Latrines
My understanding is that human feces is very sticky, and will stick to and clog a pipe unless there is a lot of flush water. This seems reasonable to me from little experiments I've done with mud, which is less sticky than feces. Has this system been tested with actual users? Does the system work?
It seems like a very good idea if it doesn't clog.

This looks like an excellent product, and that it can be used with a standard ceramics pan will for sure ease adoption (although maybe not at the very bottom of the pyramid). Any info on the expected price-point for small scale sanitation entrepreneurs?
Will it be also available in Nepal?
Unrelated to that: are you also working on an easy to install and clean urinal?

New SATO Connection System for Twin-Pit Pour Flush Latrines
Dear SuSanA colleagues,
I am pleased to announce an exciting addition to the SATO product line. On September 1 we will be launching the SATO Twin Pit Connection System in India. This new product replaces the common p-trap and completely eliminates the Y-junction box, allowing the piping to be laid out in straight lines in a "V" configuration. It improves performance, reduces water consumption by 80%, virtually eliminates the possibility of blockages, AND reduces the overall cost of construction. You can see how it works by downloading the video at the link below. Like the Original SATO, it was developed with support from the Gates Foundation. More to come...
