Dr Jha

You are absoloutly right .The cabin is the last issue

Firstly a leech pit should have a second leech storage so the pathogens are removed otherwise the risk of 30-50% pasthogens going into the groundwater .

Also with the water tablets and flooding -how will this work during monsoon

Leech pit also has to be emptied after drying -which is like digging rocks and then this has to be crushed to put back into the soil .Do the villages have this facility

Why are these issues not being discussed in the Govt level so they can come with a certain standard for the toilets . Which are safe and user friendly and improve the water condition .

We are promoting long term composting toilets which can be built and upscaled -and are easy to maintain .

In Kolkata and almost whole state of West West Bengal water table is very high quite unsafe for leach pit. The technology is causing sever ground water pollution.
Even in areas having very low ground water table this ring channel needs to be improved. There is no honey comb/ holes in ring channels. Leaching of water/ effluent will be only through the bottom. Due to accumulation of sludge at bottom, it becomes almost impervious. Therefore there is frequent filling of pits. In such case there is problem of safe removal of septage/ faecal sludge- a major problem.
What is innovative idea with the superstructure? what is the material, its life and cost?

Dear Ms. Promita,

Thanks for sharing the demonstration pdf, it seems to be a promising solution to provide better sanitation facility to the people.

I am looking for sanitary solutions in rural areas of Rajasthan where water scarcity is a problem.

I would like to know few things about this model you have installed in Kolkata..
1. What is the Avg. cost to install this system?
2. What is the water consumption in using this pan?
3. As the pits are 3.5 ft deep, what is the duration of slurry disposal?
4. Technology and Methodology adopted for faceal slurry management?
5. Features of the Superstructure shown in PPT and its durability?
6. This toilet is to be used by a single house members or multiple houses?
