In Rwanda, the remarkable Gatagara Stoneware Pottery is entirely capable of the production of high quality toilets. Please see the accompanying brochure. Stoneware toilets will only differ from the conventional porcelain toilets in that stoneware is gray or brown while porcelain is white. These are equally durable. Support is needed in order to get well designed toilets and their models and master molds to the potters. Remarkably, the pottery is entirely self-sufficient in materials, including their production of the high temperature components, the refractories of their kilns.

Stoneware toilets will have the advantage of an incomparable, hygienic glassy surface. Cleaning agents are always preferred but water alone will make a stoneware toilet somewhat hygienic. Were these remarkable potters to be incentivized to share their knowledge, stoneware potteries could proliferate among Rwanda's neighbors. There could be no need to import toilets to Africa. A further benefit of the new skills of model and mold making would be remarkable capacity in industrial development.
