Seeking data on health improvements from toilet ownership
Greetings. An NGO that normally works to provide drinking water treatment in
Central America is considering the idea of working with sanitation as well.
They have asked me to speak to them about the health benefits of dry toilets, including ecosan and VIP.
My question is if anyone can help me find studies and analyses of the measured
health benefit of owning a latrine, vs. open defecation. Their work so far with
water purification has had striking positive results on people's health, and I
think they will only start spending their resources on sanitation if they can
see evidence that sanitation will have comparable results.
This NGO works in both rural and urban communities.
Thanks very much,
Abraham Noe-Hays
