Re: What are the key resources in Arabic in the field of Sanitation?
Dear All,
We are happy to inform that SuSanA Library now has 35 new key resources completely in Arabic focusing on sanitation related topics in the MENA region.
Take a look at the resources here: MENA Library
We hope that these publications would be of great use for our members in the MENA region.
Regards

Dear Anne,
I think Kareem would be instrumental in providing Arabic publications for the Susana Library; and possibly for translating some Arabic publications in English.

Thanks Anne for the information.
When we had translated the Compendium of Sanitation Systems and Technologies, we had gathered lots of Arabic resources for this regard.
I will upload them on SuSanA's Library.
Regards,
Kareem

Hi Kareem,
many thanks for starting this discussion.
I totally agree that the language barrier is one of the challenges that practitioners face when searching for information and knowledge about sustainable sanitation solutions.
The SuSanA library offers a selection of publications in languages other than English, but as yu can see here, only five publications in Arabic are currently available here: www.susana.org/en/resources/library (go to Filters and select -->languages--> "Arabic")
Please help us to change that and share your resources in Arabic with us!
Best regards,
Anne ( on behalf of the SuSanA Secretariat)
P.S. All resources that are relevant to the MENA region are available on this part of the SuSanA website: www.susana.org/en/regional-chapters/mena...mena-chapter-library

Asalam Alikom everybody
There is a crucial need to promote fundamental knowledge and education for sustainable sanitation in the Arab world, to utilize this knowledge in solving our sanitation problems. But one of the main challenges facing this knowledge acquisition process is the language barrier. As almost all of the researches and reports are written and published in English language.
The majority of Arab population encounter problems in understanding and practicing English language. This fact has been stated by many researchers. (Abdul Haq, 1982; Abbad, 1988; Wahba, 1998). Arabic is their vital tool for communicating and sharing thoughts, ideas, feelings, cultural ties, and through which emotions are shaped and perceptions of reality are determined. In some Arabian countries, they consider teaching courses in English in schools is a violation of law, because the general education in schools should be in Arabic. (Shaheen, 2009).
Accordingly, In this discussion I would like to invite you to add your inputs and share with us Arabic references in the field of sanitation , such as: books, research papers, articles, journals ...etc. Please share links of open source documents.
Looking forward for your recommendations and inputs.
Regards,
Kareem
