Five Toilet Myths in India

Hi All,

I came upon this post: www.wateraid.org/news/news/five-toilet-myths-in-india

The authors' implication seem to me to be:
1. Presence of a toilet does not guarantee its use (people have other reasons for open defecation).

2. Toilets will have no effect on gender violence.

3. Toilets will not eradicate manual scavenging: merely change its nature.

4. A good technical toilet design is necessary but not sufficient for success. The toilet has to be designed considering the needs of its users (esp. women) and must be installed and maintained properly.

5. Throwing money at the problem could actually exacerbate it.

I would really like to know what to make of these observations...
