Re: Introducing Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC): a new partner organisation of SuSanA

Thanks Su Su for your post. The Knowledge Base is a database of physical resources available in our Resources Centre at WEDC, Loughborough University. These are not just WEDC publications and so are copyrighted by other institutions.

However, all WEDC publications are available. The best page to discover these has just been updated and is:

wedc.lboro.ac.uk/knowledge/know.html

I hope this helps.

Kind regards

Rod

Re: Introducing Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC): a new partner organisation of SuSanA

I would also say as an environmental engineering student, wedc-knowledge.lboro.ac.uk/ is a very wonderful and useful link, and I have found many interesting books by searching on the knowlegde base on that web page.

But I am wondering how I can download/read online some of those articles.

Thank you.

Best regards,
Su Su

Re: Introducing Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC): a new partner organisation of SuSanA

It is good to note that WEDC has become a SuSanA partner. WEDC is a major, major organization, with a vast wealth of resource materials in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene. It has a significant orientation towards the developing countries,as much, most of the publications, available with WEDC, are applicable for developing countries.

I have a long association with WEDC, and I'm sure, colleagues here at this forum, will benefit immensely from the resource and knowledge materials of WEDC.

Well done, SuSanA secretariat!!

Thanks for the welcome.

Of particular note for partners not yet aware about us is our knowledge base list of thousands of WASH resources. Our own are all freely available to download from:

wedc-knowledge.lboro.ac.uk/

Also available from here is the free online course 'Rural Sanitation at Scale' developed in partnership with WSP.

Introducing Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC): a new partner organisation of SuSanA

We would like to welcome Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC) as new SuSanA partner organisation.

The following text is taken directly from their application form and was written by the partner organisation themselves.

Description:
The Water, Engineering and Development Centre is one of the world’s leading education and research institutes for developing knowledge and capacity in water and sanitation for sustainable development and emergency relief.

We focus on solutions for people in low- and middle-income countries, helping to provide evidence-based answers to important questions – not only about what needs to be done to improve basic infrastructure and essential services – but also how to go about it.

Founded in 1971, WEDC is based in the School of Civil and Building Engineering at Loughborough University, one of the top award-winning UK universities.

Activities in Sustainable Sanitation:
What makes us stand out from the crowd is our outreach to practitioners – using our knowledge base and our applied research work to develop the capacity of individuals and organizations throughout the world, promoting the integration of social, technical, economic, institutional and environmental activities as a prerequisite for development.

Our core values:

Education: Teaching, learning and capacity building underpin sustainable developments in water, sanitation and hygiene: Education is the sine qua non – the indispensable condition of development. It won\'t happen without it.

Knowledge and research: Knowledge is central to progress. It\'s not just the generation of new knowledge through research, but using existing knowledge to the full, and working seriously on dissemination and uptake.

Specifically we run postgraduate programmes at MSc level and programmes of professional development. We publish our research findings in accessible formats.

Expectations in the Partnership:
Sharing of ideas, information, experience and knowledge

Contribution to SuSanA:
All our WASH resources are available free of charge for downloading. New resources are continually being developed. There is free access to our WASH Knowledge Base.

Rod Shaw is the SuSanA contact person for WEDC.
