Re: World Water Forum side event: You thought quitting smoking was hard? Try using a toilet!

(note by moderator: I have moved Pippa's posting to here in order to keep everything about WWF in one place)

Hello

For those attending the 6th World Water Forum in Marseilles next month, I would like to invite you to the side event

You thought quitting smoking was hard? Try using a toilet!
14th March 2012 - 19:15 to 20:15 - Room: Sormiou PC 12, Palais des congrès.

This event is convened by the Community of Practice for Sanitation and Hygiene, with support from WSSCC and facilitated by COMBI Behavior and Social Intervention expert Asiya OduglehKolev of the World Health Organization.

This event is in response to the demand of sanitation and hygiene practitioners that a wider appreciation is needed of behavioral change – Is the sanitation and hygiene sector focusing too narrowly on handwashing and fixed-point defecation where there are wider lessons on changing behaviors? What can we learn from other sectors? And, what are the behaviors that sanitation and hygiene practitioners should be looking to impact?

Please join this event for an honest debate about people’s every day habits and choices and the implications for achieving real progress in improving sanitation and hygiene.

This events falls under the wider scope of the global community of practice for sanitation and hygiene –and intends to be one of a series of events under the behavioral change theme and others. Learning points from this event will be shared with the wider community.

Details can be found in the attached flyer and online at www.worldwaterforum6.org

Please share with your networks and colleagues. Places may be limited – if possible please notify your attendance to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Re: World Water Forum in Marseille

Dear Emmanuel,

I would be very interested to have a look at your dry toilet solution, the factory but also in individual practice. When and how can we arrange an excursion?

FYI and where we could meet: we share a booth with Coalition Eau in Espace France and present the solution "Schools as Agents for Improving Water and Sanitation in Rural Communities" with focus on Water Safety Plans and UDDTs in the "Village of Solutions".

Looking forward to hearing from you

Re: World Water Forum in Marseille

Hello,

we can say that there will have 2 world water forums. It is a non sence if people of Susana can not be present on one of them.
I do not anderstand what happen exactly and why there is so poor interest in such events.
I live 2 hours driving from Marseille and I will probably go one day.
If we can organise things to meet Susana members in Marseille, it will be perfect. I can organise a visit of my dry toilet manufacture (Ecodomeo) if you want.

Re: World Water Forum in Marseille

Hi cecile, Hi dorothee,

The alternative forum call the world water one in these terms : "This Council is a mouthpiece for transnational companies and the World Bank and they falsely claim to head the global governance of water". Here is the link, of the alternative world water forum : www.fame2012.org/en/
When you look at it, all the partners in this FAME (forum alternatif mondial de l'eau) are public institutions managing water locally, it is true that it is pretty opposed to the partners of the world water forum : Veolia, Suez, HSBC, EDF ... I think their main message is to be opposed to the big Public Private Partnerships. Is it simplifying a lot the goal of this forum ? I beg the one going there, please dorothee, to share their impression on it !
ATTAC is pretty involved in as well if you have time for a glance at their website (in french) : www.france.attac.org/evenement/14-17-mar...mondial-de-leau-fame.

Have a good day !

Ben

Re: World Water Forum in Marseille

Hi Dorothee,

I will be around as I live close from Marseille.
The World Water Forum is outcried by many associations here in France because it is said the forum promotes only conventional non sustainable solutions. They created a counter forum. I don't know more about it yet. If I have more information I will put a post.
I you are around as well as other SuSanA members I would be happy to meet !

Side Event: “Breaking the silence around Menstrual Hygiene Management”
Wednesday, 14th March 13.15-14.15
Organised by WSSCC and SHARE Consortium, this session has the aim to bring MHM to a wider attention, particularly as francophone Africa has not yet fully embraces the topic. This dedicated side event, will include SHARE’s systematic review of evidence, practical grassroots solutions from Zimbabwe, India (Sulabh) and francophone Africa and good time for questions, and sharing of experiences.

Re: World Water Forum in Marseille in 2012, various topics

Dear all,

I would like to find out who of working group 1 (and SuSanA in general) will be attending World Water Forum 6 in Marseille?
I will be present and I would be happy to contribute to any sort of SuSanA event during the forum.
As it will be an extremely busy time for most of us, I thought of more an informal not-working-group-specific-meeting to exchange. But this is just a suggestion and I am open for other ideas!

Looking forward to seeing you there,

Dorothee
