Re: 2020 Rich Earth Virtual Summit: Reclaiming Urine as a Resource (15-17 September, online)
Hi Elisabeth,
I posted the event in the sanitation calendar as well with more information about the CBSA (and updated the event here accordingly).
The donations will go to support the alliance of CBSA member organizations working on the front-line of sanitation justice--so that they can collaborate together and support each other's work. We feel that it is so important to support what they're doing on the ground especially in the midst of this pandemic.
We wanted to make to conference accessible to all, so donation is not required to attend. While we are inviting donations to cover the cover the cost of running the conference (a relatively small cost) we felt it was a great opportunity to encourage those who were interested in this topic to support organizations in need at this time. Does that answer your question?

Re: 2020 Rich Earth Virtual Summit: Reclaiming Urine as a Resource (15-17 September, online)
Hi Julia,
I am posting in this thread to bring it back on top of the list as it seems an interesting event and it's open to everyone with an internet connection (and in a suitable time zone).
I found it interesting that you said:
Also why did you choose CBSA as your referred charity and what exactly will happen with the money that is raised in this way? How much money are you hoping to raise?
(I am interested because we have tossed ideas around whether SuSanA members should at some point in the future be encouraged to pay a fee of sorts for SuSanA services, like the running of this discussion forum, or not. It can be administratively complicated dealing with many small donations of money but it could also be an interesting concept.)
Regards,
Elisabeth

Is the idea here to reduce "drop off" rates of people who have registered but then don't come?Admission By Donation
Proceeds will support members of the Container Based Sanitation Allianc e who provide access to dignified, safe, and affordable sanitation in dense urban areas otherwise lacking in options.

Re: 2020 Rich Earth Virtual Summit: Reclaiming Urine as a Resource (15-17 September, online)
Join us to discuss the future of urine diversion and its re-use as a fertilizer!
For the past five years, the Rich Earth Institute’s annual urine diversion summit has brought together researchers, practitioners, policy makers, industry leaders, and students, catalyzing new collaborations and partnerships as we continue to grow the body of knowledge about this innovative practice.
This year, we’re bringing our conference online for the first time! We hope this will enable a much wider, global audience to participate in the discussion as we exchange ideas for the future of urine diversion. Recordings of each panel will be made available after the event to accommodate time zone differences and other scheduling conflicts.
RSVP now for updates about the conference, including registration information, panel themes, topic lunches, and more. Event registration will open July 1.
Call For Presenters!
Have research results, a project, or other experience you want to share? Submit an abstract for a 6-8 minute lightning talk through the RSVP form.
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Nancy G. Love
Dr. Nancy G. Love is the Borchardt and Glysson Collegiate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University Michigan, and an adjunct Professor at the Institute of Biotechnology at Addis Ababa University. In collaboration with her students, Dr. Love works at the interface of water, infrastructure and public health in both domestic and global settings. As Principal Investigator of the National Science Foundation’s INFEWS project: Advancing Technologies and Improving Communication of Urine-Derived Fertilizers for Food Production within a Risk Based Framework, she will discuss this collaborative project and her vision for the future of urine diversion and reuse.
Admission By Donation
Members of the Container Based Sanitation Alliance (CBSA) provide access to dignified, safe, and affordable sanitation in dense urban areas otherwise lacking in options. This alliance includes Clean Team (Ghana), Loowatt (Madagascar), Sanivation and Sanergy (Kenya), SOIL (Haiti) and x-runner (Peru). During the COVID-19 pandemic, we recognize the significant challenges facing these providers, and therefore proceeds from this summit will go to support members of the CBSA.

Re: Summit & Webinar on Urine Diversion - Nov. 7th & 8th, Michigan, USA
Can anyone who attended this event provide some feedback please?
The detailed agenda is here: richearthinstitute.org/our-work/ud-summi...ailed-summit-agenda/
I bet it was a very interesting event to see where urine diversion is at, on the East Coast of the US.
The keynote presentation was streamed so I hope the recording will be made available soon.
Here is the recording from the year before:
"At our 2018 Urine Diversion Summit held in Brattleboro, VT we were joined by SOIL Haiti's Dr. Sasha Kramer as she shared her experiences with Container Based Sanitation in periurban areas in Haiti."
Regards,
Elisabeth

4th Annual Urine Diversion Summit
August 16th and 17th 2018
in Brattleboro, Vermont
Keynote address from Dr. Sasha Kramer
The Urine Diversion Summit is a convergence of passionate people working to transform human waste into a resource. Building upon the success of the past three summits, the conference will include lightning talks from participants, small group sessions focused on regulation, technical advances, cultural concerns, and research results.
This year Dr. Sasha Kramer, Co-founder and Executive Director of SOIL Haiti will be our keynote speaker. Dr. Kramer received her Ph.D. in Ecology from Stanford University in 2006 and co-founded SOIL that same year while also completing a postdoctoral research position with the Collaboratory for Research on Global Projects at Stanford. While Sasha spends the majority of her time living and working in Haiti, she is also a global advocate for the recycling of nutrients in human waste, helping others implement sustainable sanitation projects and inspiring people around the world to participate in the sanitation revolution.
To reserve your place at this one-of-a-kind conference and read our newly published Urine Diversion Summit Report, please visit richearthinstitute.org/RSVP (richearthinstitute.org/rsvp).
Please share with others who might like to attend!
2017 Summit reactions:
“We are better off due to the connections that we were able to make with other institutions/individuals who will help move our research forward.”
100% of 2017 Summit participant respondents said they would recommend this conference to others.

Re: Urine Diversion Webinar: Tove Larsen's keynote address at the 3rd Annual Urine Diversion Summit (USA)
Dear Abraham,
Could you please tell us a bit more about this "3rd Annual Urine Diversion Summit, hosted by the Rich Earth Institute in Vermont, USA"?
Is there a website where the program and the presentations (and videos?) could be accessed?
How many people, and what kind of people, attended this? I am very curious.
Are you seeing increased uptake or interest in urine diversion systems in Vermont or the U.S. in general?
Regards,
Elisabeth

Drawing on decades of international experience, Dr. Tove Larsen's keynote address will address the past and future of urine diversion as a sustainable wastewater strategy. She will present on Thursday, August 17 at 10:00 EDT (14:00 UTC) at the 3rd Annual Urine Diversion Summit, hosted by the Rich Earth Institute in Vermont, USA.
Register here: attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/359814...163267?source=SuSanA
Dr. Tove Larsen is a chemical engineer with a PhD in process engineering from the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Technical University of Denmark. In 1999, she came to Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, to set up a cross-cutting project on urine source separation (Novaquatis). Novaquatis was successfully terminated in 2006 (www.novaquatis.eawag.ch) and won the swiss-academies award for transdisciplinary research in 2008 for its visionary, innovative and integrative approach to urban water management. At present Tove Larsen heads a group on ‘Concepts’ in the Department of Urban Water Management at Eawag. Tove Larsen led the Eawag project ‘Diversion for safe sanitation’, which won a special recognition price in the Reinvent The Toilet Challenge competition, launched by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
