Urban Open Defecation free village in Ethiopia _Success story _Sept 2016 :
Introduction : Olenchity town is located in Boset district, East Shoa Zone of the Oromia Region 126 km from Addis Ababa and 30km from Adama at a geographic coordinate of 8o40’0”N and 39o25’60”E as shown in figure below.
Located on the main road to the port of Djibouti commercial activity mainly service related activities such as hotels, bars and restaurants are reported by the town administration as growing sources of employment and income for Wolenchiti town residents.
There are 2kebeles in Wolenchiti town. Based on 2007 CSA data and update in 2011, the projected population for Wolenchiti town from 2011- 2025 is as shown in table below. The medium variant (MV) is used for population projection to avoid over or under estimation of the future population.
Chara sefer is one of the slum areas found in Olenchity. This area get its name from the typical dirtiness of the area and usual disturbance of the drunkard voices; to express the hardship of being dwell in this area. There are 130 HHS live in this area. Before the UWASH intervention this area was usually referred for its dirtiness and OD practice. The living condition of this area was commonly disturbing. Among the rationale behind the dirty and sliminess of this area were:-
Area did not accessed WASH services
Women headed households ( commercial sex workers )
Being kebele houses
life status ( mainly poor) and
The physical setting of the houses is not convenient to construct Sanitation Facilities (no space to construct toilet)
There are many small chatter houses including Areke and tella Houses
OD is the major feces disposal method
UWASH intervention
1. Sanitation Task force Having five member was established
2. Orientation training was given for them
3. Triggering was conducted
4. Follow up

By law was developed and ratified by peoples representative[/li]
ketena started to fine individuals fail to respect the developed sanitation bylaw[/li]
Households construct toilet for their family[/li]
Communal latrine constructed[/li]
OD become history[/li]
Finally the town become ODF
Wro Amalawork Dhabi and shage Roba live in this villages. Amolework has four family while Shage doenst have. They are suffering more from the OD practice before. They have no compound to construct toilet for their family; even there is no enough space in their house to construct the toilet within their house. They were attend the CLTSH triggering events conducted by UWASH in their village. During that time they resist the idea from the fear that they have no space in their house to construct toilet. But after the UASH intervention during follow up they come up with innovative solution for their problems. They prepare the sitting (squat pit) on small space within their houses and construct the septic tank outside their house.
