Re: Sanitation Website - sanitation portal

In which sense "restricted in scope"? I don't see a restriction, just a lack of detail on some topic pages so far.

It's an interesting point that you raise. I think traditionally websites (like the SuSanA website) were used more to make publications available, and the actual content is inside of the publications, or inside of books and textbooks.
Perhaps nowadays we have a trend where people expect to see the content itself on the websites, i.e. without having to open up pdf files? We are moving from paper-based and pdf-based information more to web-based information?

That's exactly what Wikipedia is all about but it needs many people to add, edit and update the content all the time...
Hence my call here:
forum.susana.org/forum/categories/198-wi...le-bit-of-their-time

It reminds me also of a thread that Kris once started which he called "lack of reading culture":
forum.susana.org/forum/categories/196-ca...books-online-courses

You might find that thread interesting as well.

Re: Sanitation Website - sanitation portal

Dear Elisabeth,

I was referring, more or less, to your third point:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Sanitation

If I compare the above site with the coal site I mentioned, I find that the coal site is more comprehensive and vast in scope. Comparing to coal site, your wiki site has a somewhat restricted scope.

Your 2 other sites are also interesting, but, here again, their scope is not as vast and wide as the coal site.

Re: Sanitation Website - sanitation portal

Hi Mughal,
I am not too sure what you mean? Isn't the SuSanA website a "portal on sanitation"?
www.susana.org

Or do you mean something with more thematic content?
Wouldn't that be perhaps:
www.sswm.info, including the eCompendium: ecompendium.sswm.info

Or do you mean something that the crowd of people can edit themselves? Then we are back at the Wikipedia WikiProject Sanitation:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Sanitation

But perhaps I didn't understand your question properly?

Regards,
Elisabeth

Sanitation Website - sanitation portal

Dear Elisabeth,

I was looking for some information on coal, the coal-fired power plants in Sindh, and the environmental impacts of coal. I came across this site:

www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/Portal:Coal_Issues

As you can see, the website has massive information coal. And, if you click on just:
www.sourcewatch.org/ you will find that they have a website on FrackSwarm.

The website www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/Portal:FrackSwarm gives a wealth of information on fracking issues.

These 2 sites lead me to a question for you. Is it possible for your team to have a similar portal on sanitation?
