Hello!
I am building a public toilet in the Carpathian Mtn. on the buss station which involves urine separation. Unfortunately there are no female urinals at the moment available in Ukraine for sale. I thought about installing a bidet instead. Did anyone had experience?

Pre-test it with a few women, but I doubt it would be comfortable to use.
In general I am not sure about the acceptability of female urinals.
Can't you find UD squatting pans there?
Otherwise... what about stacking up on those carton funnels specifically made for women to be able to use a normal urinal?

Dear Bogdan,
Nice to hear from someone from the Ukraine on this forum (might be a first?)!
Just thought I should tell you about this waterless urinal for females from the company Uridan that was tested at the main train station in Frankfurt (where I live) in June 2011 - see a forum post made by Amel who was an intern with GIZ at the time:

One photo (more in the same flickr set, click on the link below):

From the set description:
The trial in the end was not a full success and did not lead to permanent installations there. But I think it will come, just give us women some time to get used to these things!?
Greetings,
Elisabeth

From the set description:
In the underground station "Hauptwache" in the city centre of Frankfurt/Germany, waterless urinals for females have been installed to conduct a trial. Two toilets in the public toilet were substituted by "Uridan" waterless urinals. The incentive to use these urinals is, they are for free. (In comparison, to use a normal flush toilet in Frankfurt costs between 0,30 and 0,50 €.) Additionally, a survey of user acceptance is being conducted.
The trial in the end was not a full success and did not lead to permanent installations there. But I think it will come, just give us women some time to get used to these things!?

Greetings,
Elisabeth

Thanks Krischan!
The squatting pan is also difficult to find. I even thought about using a little stainless sink inserted in the floor.
The funnels is probably not good idea since it would be too unusual.
The problem is that it is bus stop where lot's of every- time- new people (tourists) stop to see the nice mountain view (this is a mountain pass) and they never heard of urine divertion systems. I need something which is not too unusual. This is why I think it would be better to separate urine and feces receptacles in two sparetely standing units.

Thank you Elisabeth!
Yes I am one of those ukrainian pioneers who bring sustainable approaches to our country. I really want to be clean and comfortable for people.
Yes, this urinal from Frankfurt looks great but as I said the problem is where we can buy one.
The public spaces like these are quite challenging objects. It is not like in school where you can train people to use it. But on the other hand a chance to demonstrate something and give people a thought while they make a quick pause for a pee.

Dear Bogdan,
Maybe this separation (sitting) example from Auroville India could help: forum.susana.org/forum/categories/35-bio...planted-filters#5986
it is not too unusual for urine separation newcomers.
- on the left it is for the faeces and on the right it is for urine + washing
- very robust made and in high quality too
Good luck
Detlef

Unfortunately I can't see properly the picture on the link you mentioned. It looks like all in strips. Is it only my problem? But anyway I got the idea
I think if I put ordinary pedesatal toilet as a female urinal people still might do not care and defecate into it since they as just qiuck by-passers will not have motivation. That's why I thought separate female urinal would be better rather
han two ordinary WC even with signs saying which one is for.
Have some doubts about squatting pan UD will be good in a public space like bus stop in Ukrainian context (mentality). People might expect something raised and porcelain al if we talking about demonstrating some "progressive" "european" "eco--bla-bla-bla". Sqaautting might associate with something backward, country, primitive. Need to imitate something fancy

Hello Bogdan,
If you do not like the idea of using a squat plate have you thought of using a UDS insert like the one shown to collect the urine separate from any solids. It is accepted for use in the UK among other countries so isn't viewed as to backwards.
Collection for solids can be done in waste bin then taken else where to be dried, disposed of or composted.
There are a few different versions available around Europe, not sure if there is a supplier in Ukraine but may be it is an idea for you.

Well, I came across this offer. Now comes comparison. I can buy a porcelain Ukrainian made bidet for 40 EUR or plastic insert for 70-112 EUR . The common sense tells me bidet would be a better choise. Have asked several girls so far and basically they don't mind about peeing in bidet.
