Workshop on Sanitation Governance and Sustainable Sanitation, 30 - 31 January 2013, Kigali, Rwanda
Dear All,
WaterAid Rwanda, Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and Kigali Health Institute are organizing a two-day workshop on sanitation governance and sustainable sanitation in Kigali, Rwanda on the 30th and 31st of January 2013. This workshop will bring together sanitation experts mainly from Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, and Burundi to share knowledge and experiences on sanitation and hygiene policy and practice as well as on sustainability aspects of sanitation and hygiene programmes which remain a challenge in the region. The workshop is organized as part of an initiative to foster knowledge exchange, collaboration and networking on sanitation governance and sustainable sanitation in the East African region. Discussions at this workshop will revolve around questions such as: Why has progress in the sanitation and hygiene sector remained sluggish in Sub-Saharan Africa? What is needed to maintain proper or at least minimum sanitation and hygiene standards in the region, and to catalyze the gains in sanitation and hygiene coverage that have been made? What are the obstacles to progress? In addition, findings from the Stockholm Environment Institute’s (SEI) rules, roles and resources of sanitation research project will be presented and discussed. This project is funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
