Re: SuSanA at the Nagpur IWA Conference??

Dear All,

I am a MSc Urban Management student from TU Berlin, currently based in Kathmandu while I make an internship with the GFA Municipal Support Team (on behalf of GIZ). At the same time I am researching and writing my Master Thesis on community-based, decentralised wastewater management in Nepal's urban settlements (applying the CLUES approach for DEWATS in the hillside town of Tansen).

Last month, I was lucky enough to attend the IWA Nagpur Conference on Decentralised Wastewater Management. I found the conference to be extremely informative, thanks to all the expert presentations and fruitful participant discussions.

Upon returning to Kathmandu, Alex and I prepared a short ppt presentation to share the conference findings with our colleagues - I would also like to share just some of the slides here, to highlight the main points we took away from the conference.

Cheers,

Laura Bright-Davies

Re: SuSanA at the Nagpur IWA Conference??

Hi Elisabeth,

Thanks for your response, and apologies for not getting back right away -- I was out on a vacation beyond internet access, so saw this only now. I will send emails (later today) to the WGs as suggested by you, and will also see check with some of the others to see who might want to actually organise this.

I will certainly share my impressions post the event!

Regards,

Sunder

Re: SuSanA at the Nagpur IWA Conference??

Dear Sunder,

Thanks for bringing this conference in India to our attention!
Here is the website of the conference which you mentioned:
www.iwadewats-nagpur.com/

The program looks very interesting and I see some familiar SuSanA member names there, such as Chris Buckley, Jonathan Parkinson, Stefan Reuter, Christoph Luethi, for example.
So a little SuSanA informal gathering could for sure be nice and useful (it would just need someone to organise it by naming a venue and time; maybe even just a restaurant for dinner (pay yourself basis)). GIZ India is also involved (Dirk Walther).

As you had no replies to your query thus far, I suggest you also send an e-mail to the working group mailing list which is closest to the conference theme, probably WG 10 (operation and maintenance) and/or maybe WG 4 (systems) or WG 3 (because biogas is also part of the conference), and ask the same question there (point them also to this discussion thread).

It would also be great to have the presentations available afterwards on the SuSanA website (and videos?). I know from previous IWA conferences that they usually don't make the ppts and papers freely available which is a shame (example: Manila conference in 2011). Jonathan Parkinson: please correct me if I am wrong? What could be a way around this problem?

In any case, Sunder, please do tell us afterwards about your impressions and what the main trends were.

It looks like BORDA will be prominently in the program, it has been my hope that the BORDA people also use and discover this forum more (we recently had a discussion on the DEWATS system where Christoph Platzer wrote very detailed issues about DEWATS, but unfortunately no reply from BORDA yet).

Kind regards,
Elisabeth

IWA Conference on Decentralised Wastewater Management in Asia (Nagpur, India) - now with feedback

Hi Everyone,

Good to be back on the Forum after many months! Wondering if there are SuSanA folks who will be attending the IWA Conference on Decentralised Wastewater Management in Asia (November 2012) -- I will be there, and if there are going to be many others, might be useful to do a small informal catch-up......

Cheers,

Sunder
