The future of action on WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) looks positive – with the post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals global agenda maintaining attention on the need for water, sanitation and hygiene for everyone, all the time. But the path to achieving this global agenda requires new ways of thinking.

How can all WASH actors - governments, private sectors and civil society - work together to ensure WASH, whether at community-scales or larger institutional-scales, to achieve not only sustained access for everyone, but also health, well-being, environmental and economic outcomes for societies?

In May 2016 practitioners and professionals from civil society, governments, private sectors, donors, students and academic institutions, will come together to contribute to the broader international WASH dialogue and share knowledge with the Australian WASH community and partners.

WASH 2016 program and themes
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the Australian WASH Reference Group and the International WaterCentre (IWC) are partnering to deliver an international water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) conference in 2016. WASH Futures 2016 builds on the successes of three earlier international WASH conferences in 2008, 2011 and 2014.

The conference comprises five days of activities with two days dedicated to conference-style sessions with parallel streams addressing specific themes, and three days of training workshops relating to the theme of the conference ‘WASH Futures: Pathways to universal and sustained water, sanitation and hygiene’.

• WASH management for sustainable service delivery
• WASH business, financing & private sectors
• Ensuring WASH reaches everyone
• Moving WASH beyond the household
• Integrating hygiene to ensure health outcomes
• WASH and water security
• WASH in the Pacific: situations and trends

The conference will specifically draw out the issues of private sector participation in WASH, equity and WASH in the Pacific as cross-cutting themes.

Well, abstract submission due date was 18 October 2015 and based on those abstracts, the program of the conference has been decided upon. Is it clearer now?

This looks to be a very interesting conference. But maybe a little clarification on the deadline for submission of abstracts "18 October, 2015"?

The International WaterCentre is pleased to announce the summary conference and training program for WASH Futures 2016 is now available.

The five day program includes a two day conference (16-17 May) and three days of training workshops (18-20 May). Participants can elect to attend the five days of activities or package their registration to suit their needs and interests.

Delegates will also hear from distinguished international keynote speakers including Bruce Gordon (Coordinator of Water, Sanitation, Hygiene and Health, World Health Organization), Catarina de Albuquerque (Executive Chair, Sanitation and Water for All Partnership), Don Blackmore (Chair, eWater Board and International Water Management Institute) and Nugroho Tri Utomo (Director of Housing and Settlements, National Development Planning Board of Indonesia).

Themed “WASH Futures: Pathways to universal and sustained water, sanitation and hygiene”, the conference will explore the cross-cutting issues of private sector participation in WASH, equity and WASH in the pacific.

WASH conference 2016 – abstracts now open

The future of action on WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) looks positive – with the post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals global agenda maintaining attention on the need for water, sanitation and hygiene for everyone, all the time. This and many more questions will be explored at the WASH 2016 conference in Brisbane, Australia 16-20 May, 2016.
