We happily invite you to the upcoming 4th Webinar "Linking the Water-Energy-Food Nexus to Sanitation in the WANA Region" of the series of four “Sanitation Plus” webinars by the SuSanA Regional Chapter West Asia and North Africa (WANA) as well as WG WASAM of the GIZ Mediterranean Environmental Sector Network (SN MEN-REM), taking place on the 5th October 2023, 11.00 - 12.30 CEST.

The objective of the Webinar is to understand the link between the Water-Energy-Food(WEF) Nexus and sanitation, by examining cross-cutting themes between sanitation, food security, climate change and water stress in the region.

  • Accessing the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in the MENA region: Eligibility criteria to access the fund, project structures that are likely to receive funding, introducing the nexus portfolio in the GCF
  • Successful examples of recipients from the MENA region and examples from outside the region that address the multiple components of the nexus.

Presentation of Dr. Youssef Brouziyne:
  • Bankable sanitation projects to explore the sanitation and nexus interaction, their operational challenges including regulations, availability of relevant data, monitoring mechanisms, etc.
  • The potential of treatment and reuse projects in agricultural production, water preservation (aquifers injection for example), energy optimization efficiency, etc.
  • Examples from successful projects and interventions from the MENA region: Treatment projects for agriculture in Egypt, water recharge projects in the Gulf, treatment and landscaping projects in Morrocco.

  • The use of treated greywater for irrigation at the farm level in rural areas in Jordan. A case study on a novel constructed wetland financed by World Vision.

It is with joy that we can invite you to the upcoming 3rd Webinar "Sustainable Sanitation Solutions in Emergency Contexts" of the series of four “Sanitation Plus” webinars by the SuSanA Regional Chapter West Asia and North Africa (WANA) as well as WG WASAM of the GIZ Mediterranean Environmental Sector Network (SN MEN-REM), taking place on the 2nd August 2023, 11.00 - 12.30 CET.

We happily invite you to the upcoming 2nd Webinar "Sanitation Workers´Rights and Social Justice in the WANA Region" of the series of four “Sanitation Plus” webinars by the SuSanA Regional Chapter West Asia and North Africa (WANA) as well as WG WASAM of the GIZ Mediterranean Environmental Sector Network (SN MEN-REM), taking place on the 7th June 2023, 10.30 - 12.00 CEST.

The objective of the Webinar is to highlight sanitation workers’ rights from a human rights perspective including work legal struggles, working conditions, and violations reported by workers in the WANA region by introducing the participants to different challenges and insights from the field but also presenting possible ways forward and solutions. The speakers will illustrate their work and practices using examples from different countries (Jordan, Iraq).
 
Speakers: Manar Majid Hamid, (Professor in Geographyof the urban environment and pollution), Hadeel Abdel-Aziz (Founding Member and Executive Director of the Justice Center for Legal Aid JCLA), and Rajeev Munankami (Multi Country Programme Manager, Urban Sanitation Programme, SNV).

Announcement of the Webinar Series “Sanitation Plus”May2023 – August 2023  facilitated by the GIZ Sector Network MEN-REM-Working Group Sustainable Water and Sanitation Management (WASAM), WANA Regional Chapter of the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance (SuSanA) and Bremen Overseas Research & Development Association (BORDA e.V.) West and Central Asia 

We happily invite you to the upcoming series of four “Sanitation Plus” webinars by the SuSanA Regional Chapter West Asia and North Africa (WANA) as well as WG WASAM of the GIZ Mediterranean Environmental Sector Network (SN MEN-REM), taking place between
May and August 2023.
 
The overal lobjectives for the webinar series are to:

·       Share examples of intersectional and cross-cutting issues within the field of sanitation in the WANA region
·       Motivate participants to share examples from their work and shape the debate and future developments in the field of sanitation within the region
·       Elevate voices of sanitation experts from different fields (development cooperation, research, practitioners etc.)
·       Further exchange between different countries of the WANA region
 
Schedule:
The webinars are scheduled for the first week of each month, planned for 90 minutes each and will feature between 2 - 4 speakers from different backgrounds. The exact dates will be announced 2 weeks before the webinar.

Sanitation Workers Knowledge and Learning Hub.

Challenges and success factors when dealing with WASH in emergency contexts, both on an operational level as well as when dealing with natural
disasters.
 
1st week of August Sustainable Sanitation in the context of the Water-Energy-Food Nexus
Examining cross-cutting themes between sanitation, food security, climate change, water stress etc.
 
In cooperation with the SN MEN-REM Working Group Nexus
