Webinar: Cash, vouchers and market support activities and WASH

Dear all,

The Global WASH Cluster , PRO-WASH and CaLP are organizing an upcoming webinar on the Effectiveness of  cash, vouchers and market support activities on achieving WASH Outcomes.  The webinar will take place on: Tuesday, December 8th at 9 a.m. Eastern Time (US) / 3 p.m. Paris. This webinar will be held in English with simultaneous interpretation in French, Arabic and Spanish.

Description of the webinar
Over recent years humanitarian aid organizations have increasingly used market-based programming (MBP) to deliver water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in emergencies. ‘Market-based modalities’ include the distribution of cash and vouchers, which enable recipient households to access the WASH goods and services they need, as well as supporting WASH markets to deliver
them at humanitarian standards. While MBP has many advantages in theory, such as contributing to economic recovery and addressing affected populations’ basic needs in a more efficient and effective way, what evidence is there that these approaches have actually resulted in a positive effect on WASH outcomes?

This webinar will present findings from a recent systematic review conducted by the Global WASH Cluster (GWC), which examined how WASH actors in humanitarian settings have used market and cash modalities to deliver essential WASH services and goods, and the effectiveness of MBP to achieve humanitarian WASH outcomes such as the availability, access, quality and use of
WASH goods and services in emergency context.

This discussion will focus on sharing with the WASH community key findings on current practices, emerging evidence, research gaps, and recommendations for next steps. This webinar is intended primarily for WASH practitioners, Cash & Market specialists, policy and decision markers, and donors.
