Re: SuSanA Global Steering Committee Election 2025!

Good Morning, Evening and night to whichever time zone you might be in.

I am replying to this post in support of Girija Ma'am, who is my supervisor. I feel the need to write this here as I would be able to give another perspective, other than her career profile, which is used for elections.

I am really grateful to be working under her, which is something really hard to admit about your boss. But some important things I feel people voting should know are that she is excellent at seeing potential in things, especially working with sustainable development can be quite discouraging because the development is mostly invisible. Even with that, she can come up with clear, achievable and direct ideas with her expertise, target and mitigate any problem effortlessly. This is not just to do with her work but also her personal connections in the workspace; she can easily make out who would be the best at what task, and she can see potential that you might not even see in yourself. This skill of hers makes her a thoughtful leader, an avid listener and a great candidate. I can confidently say that if she is chosen, she will be a great example of SuSanA’s spirit.

Re: SuSanA Global Steering Committee Election 2025!

Dear Team,

Thank you very much for the update and for considering my candidature for the Global Steering Committee election.

Hello everyone,

I’m Girija Ramakrishna, Technical Expert (Reuse & Circularity) at CDD India and Doctoral Researcher at the Divecha Centre for Climate Change, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.

I’m delighted to share that I'm standing for the Global Steering Committee election, representing the South Asia Regionwww.susana.org/alliance/structure/global...tion-2025/south-asia

My work focuses on sustainable sanitation, resource recovery, and circular economy approaches across the Global South. Over the past decade, I have worked at the intersection of research, policy, and implementation, advancing inclusive sanitation programmes, policy frameworks, and South–South knowledge exchange.

My contributions have received international recognition — including being featured on CGTN America’s Zero Hour during COP26 and receiving the Bright Polestar and Innovative Polestar Team Awards from the Global Alliance of Universities on Climate (GAUC) at COP27 for promoting youth-led climate resilience and sustainability.

As part of the IWA Resource-Oriented Sanitation Specialist Group and a Global Youth Ambassador for Climate Action, I continue to advocate for collaborative, circular, and climate-resilient sanitation solutions.

Through the SuSanA GSC, I aim to:
🌿 Strengthen regional and global partnerships for locally relevant and globally informed sanitation solutions
💧 Amplify voices from the Global South
♻️ Promote climate-resilient and resource-recovery-driven sanitation systems
🟦 Support SuSanA to evolve its agenda to address emerging challenges — including climate adaptation, equality, and innovation — while maintaining its inclusive community focus.

SuSanA has long been a platform connecting practitioners, researchers, and policymakers. I look forward to contributing to its next chapter through strategic partnerships, grounded field insights, and collective leadership.

🙏 I would deeply appreciate your support and encouragement. Every vote and message of support truly matters!

Best Regards
Girija Ramakrishna
