Dear All,

As part of the documentation strategy to amplify gender conversations in the WASH sector, SuSanA Africa intends to produce another video documentary that will involve collecting of WASH stories from men in leadership; sanitation engineers, data analysts, water quality specialists, policy, financial etc. in a bid to promote and embrace gender in the sector. The development of this documentary is aimed to support and strengthen gender inclusion in the WASH sector in African countries by offering outreach channels, visibility and providing a platform for exchange and networking.

Expected objectives from the documentary
  1. Provide an overview of why and how you ended up in the water sector.
  2. Explore key challenges and opportunities of working in a water utility.
  3. Share how it is to work with women in leadership.
  4. Share good practices and practical approaches for other women.
  5. Explore mentorship possibilities for other women.

The video should be between 3-5minutes and each question answered within 45-60 seconds.

Below are the questions participants should address:
  • How and why did you decide to work in a water utility?
  • What are the most prominent challenges and successes?
  • Are there women in the leadership team and how is it working with them?
  • Advice to other women who want to be in leadership in water utilities.
  • How do you feel about mentoring other women for similar or better roles?

Specifications on shooting the videos
  • While shooting the video interview using a smartphone please ensure that the framing is on landscape mode.
  • Switch device into plane mode or do not disturb mode to avoid any interruptions while shooting.
  • Ensure that the subject is not seated or standing close to the window to avoid light reflections or shadow effects.
  • Try as much as possible to ensure that the camera is not far from the interviewee and avoid zooming in or out while shooting.
The videos can be taken from anywhere; at home, on-site working, in the office etc. The completed videos should then be send to  This email address is being protected from spambots.
