Re: World Water Forum in Marseille in 2012, various topics

Dear all,

I would like to find out who of working group 1 (and SuSanA in general) will be attending World Water Forum 6 in Marseille?
I will be present and I would be happy to contribute to any sort of SuSanA event during the forum.
As it will be an extremely busy time for most of us, I thought of more an informal not-working-group-specific-meeting to exchange. But this is just a suggestion and I am open for other ideas!

Looking forward to seeing you there,

Dorothee

dear all, please note the

Side Event: “Breaking the silence around Menstrual Hygiene Management”
Wednesday, 14th March 13.15-14.15
Organised by WSSCC and SHARE Consortium, this session has the aim to bring MHM to a wider attention, particularly as francophone Africa has not yet fully embraces the topic. This dedicated side event, will include SHARE’s systematic review of evidence, practical grassroots solutions from Zimbabwe, India (Sulabh) and francophone Africa and good time for questions, and sharing of experiences.

Re: World Water Forum in Marseille

Hi Dorothee,

I will be around as I live close from Marseille.
The World Water Forum is outcried by many associations here in France because it is said the forum promotes only conventional non sustainable solutions. They created a counter forum. I don't know more about it yet. If I have more information I will put a post.
I you are around as well as other SuSanA members I would be happy to meet !

Re: World Water Forum in Marseille

Hi cecile, Hi dorothee,

The alternative forum call the world water one in these terms : "This Council is a mouthpiece for transnational companies and the World Bank and they falsely claim to head the global governance of water". Here is the link, of the alternative world water forum : www.fame2012.org/en/
When you look at it, all the partners in this FAME (forum alternatif mondial de l'eau) are public institutions managing water locally, it is true that it is pretty opposed to the partners of the world water forum : Veolia, Suez, HSBC, EDF ... I think their main message is to be opposed to the big Public Private Partnerships. Is it simplifying a lot the goal of this forum ? I beg the one going there, please dorothee, to share their impression on it !
ATTAC is pretty involved in as well if you have time for a glance at their website (in french) : www.france.attac.org/evenement/14-17-mar...mondial-de-leau-fame .

Have a good day !

Ben

Re: World Water Forum in Marseille

Hello,

we can say that there will have 2 world water forums. It is a non sence if people of Susana can not be present on one of them.
I do not anderstand what happen exactly and why there is so poor interest in such events.
I live 2 hours driving from Marseille and I will probably go one day.
If we can organise things to meet Susana members in Marseille, it will be perfect. I can organise a visit of my dry toilet manufacture (Ecodomeo) if you want.

Re: World Water Forum in Marseille

Dear Emmanuel,

I would be very interested to have a look at your dry toilet solution, the factory but also in individual practice. When and how can we arrange an excursion?

FYI and where we could meet: we share a booth with Coalition Eau in Espace France and present the solution "Schools as Agents for Improving Water and Sanitation in Rural Communities" with focus on Water Safety Plans and UDDTs in the "Village of Solutions".

Looking forward to hearing from you

Re: World Water Forum side event: You thought quitting smoking was hard? Try using a toilet!

(note by moderator: I have moved Pippa's posting to here in order to keep everything about WWF in one place)

Hello

For those attending the 6th World Water Forum in Marseilles next month, I would like to invite you to the side event

You thought quitting smoking was hard? Try using a toilet!
14th March 2012 - 19:15 to 20:15 - Room: Sormiou PC 12, Palais des congrès.

This event is convened by the Community of Practice for Sanitation and Hygiene, with support from WSSCC and facilitated by COMBI Behavior and Social Intervention expert Asiya OduglehKolev of the World Health Organization.

This event is in response to the demand of sanitation and hygiene practitioners that a wider appreciation is needed of behavioral change – Is the sanitation and hygiene sector focusing too narrowly on handwashing and fixed-point defecation where there are wider lessons on changing behaviors? What can we learn from other sectors? And, what are the behaviors that sanitation and hygiene practitioners should be looking to impact?

Please join this event for an honest debate about people’s every day habits and choices and the implications for achieving real progress in improving sanitation and hygiene.

This events falls under the wider scope of the global community of practice for sanitation and hygiene –and intends to be one of a series of events under the behavioral change theme and others. Learning points from this event will be shared with the wider community.

Details can be found in the attached flyer and online at www.worldwaterforum6.org

Please share with your networks and colleagues. Places may be limited – if possible please notify your attendance to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

With best wishes,
Pippa Scott

Re: World Water Forum in Marseille

SuSana is participating to 2 discussions as I read on the website. Who will be representing SuSanA and who will participate in the discussions ? Which day will they take place ?
I know it is possible to get a "promotional code" to participate as a visitor to the WWF in order to decrease the price (one day visit is 250€). Could Coalition Eau of WECF or SuSanA have this kind of code to help interested members come and visit at more reasonable price ?

Best regards

Cecile

Re: World Water Forum in Marseille

In my role as moderator, I have now moved a number of previous postings which were made in relationship to the WWF in Marseille to here. So now you have it all in one place, just scrol up to see the previous postings. Make sure you don't miss Pippa's event announcement (from WSSCC), which appears just 2 postings above and which is new.

I don't know how these promotional tickets work but maybe the big organisations who are attending (IWA, WSSCC, GIZ) can hand some tickets out to SuSanA members, such as Cecile? I think that would be nice. I will enquire with my GIZ colleagues who are going (unfortunately, I will not attend, neither anyone from my team). I know of the following SuSanA core group members who are going so far: Dorothee, Jonathan, Claudia. As far as I know, no SuSanA working group meeting has been organised but maybe something spontaneous can be done. So please bring it to our attention if you are interested. Pippa and the WSSCC colleagues will be there. Cecile and Emmanuel have expressed an interest to come.

SuSanA is all about networking and bringing people in contact. :)

Regards,
Elisabeth

Re: World Water Forum in Marseille

Dear all,
I will be at the official forum and also check out the alternative forum if I got time.
We had the idea to have a rather informal meeting (the visit of the toilet of Emanuel could be a nice trip!).
@Cecile: which events are you talking about? I will be present in the exhibition (Swiss Pavillon) and the Village of Solution ("School") presenting the SSWM Toolbox and I have some SuSanA material which I will take along and spread.
Besides the working group leads, I know the following persons will also be present: Chr. Werner, Themba, Karsten. I also thought Rahul will be there, but finally not?
Cheers

Re: World Water Forum in Marseille

Hello,

Claudia and Dorothee, I will probably be present in the alternative forum with one of my toilet the 14th, the 15th and the 16th. With members of the "Frensh ecological sanitation association" (RAE) we try to organise a place with dry toilets for the visitors and a small show place for other types of dry toilets.
It would be nice if we can meet there. I am not sure to go in the official WWF because of the price of the tickets.
I will give you more information when I have it.
Tell me if you like it or if you prefer to meet me in my company (at my home)
