Re: A summary of responses to the survey for members of Working Group 8: Emergency & reconstruction situations.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for posting the survey results. What do the leads of Working Group 8 conclude from this? (for those not familiar with SuSanA's Working Group system, see here for Working Group 8: www.susana.org/en/working-groups/emergen...struction-situations)

Regards,
Elisabeth

Re: A summary of responses to the survey for members of Working Group 8: Emergency & reconstruction situations.

Dear Colleagues:

Below are excerpts from the survey to members of SuSanA Working Group 8: Emergency & reconstruction situations.

1 - 58 responses from 26 countries

2 - Please give a brief description of your interests, current work or research in Humanitarian WASH:
- Container based sanitation
- Faecal Sludge Treatment in Humanitarian Emergencies
- WASH preparedness in the EBOLA context
- Working for UNICEF in Beirut as sanitation expert for the Syrian camps. We develop and implement innovative sanitation options for emergencies. The plans contains: Development of a standard multipurpose tank (for storage, anaerobic treatment, aerobic (sand) filtration, grey water treatment); Intercepted sewerage network; Grey water drainage and treatment; treatment of settled waste water: piloting different DEWAT systems; later on: FSM
- Involved in engineering tasks of water and sanitation infrastructure and capacity building of local government institutions. Currently involved in water and sanitation infrastructure development in Rohingya camp of Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh.
- SDC is building up its emergency sanitation unit in terms of intervention modalities and personnel. I am overall responsible for this process and thus very interested in technical solutions for emergency sanitation, but also its connection to public health and control mechanism (Faecal Sludge Laboratory)

3 - What activities could we conduct that would be useful to Working Group members?
- Webinars by members of WG 8 – 48
- A monthly or bimonthly WG 8 enewsletter - 41

- A monthly or bimonthly enewsletter that would feature recent publications or upcoming events by Working Group members - 8

4 - Please let us know how you would prefer to engage with the Working Group in the future:
- Participate in webinars and online discussions - 29
- Remain on listserve, receive updates – 16
- Initiate new sub-topic within the WG – 10

5 - Please let us know of any additional comments or suggestions:
- Research areas especially relationship between WASH and climate in Urban Areas
- Besides sharing the best practice, exchange visits would be useful to learn the things in details.
- While doing webinars and discussions (or even on your enewsletter), please you should take into account those living in rural areas / developing countries with poor internet connection. It means that you could choose for internet tools, platforms or applications which would be easily downloaded with slow internet connection.
- Update Wikipedia articles on this topic, provide more images to be used in such articles by uploading to Wikimedia Commons
- A newsletter on trials, new interventions, updates on implementation

Re: A survey for members of Working Group 8 - Emergency & reconstruction situations

This is a very good survey and I urge anyone with an interest in emergency and reconstruction situations to take it! So far there have been 57 responses. Working Group 8 has 2500 members so let's hear from some more members.
The survey is fast and easy to fill in. After you have submitted it you can click on "view previous responses" and see what everyone else has replied. That's interesting.
Here is the survey link again: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSddyZzC...gCy6qFdD3_g/viewform
