Re: Join the VIA Water webinar on faecal sludge December 15th
Dear Elisabeth,
thank you so much for your message, you summed it up very well! And good to hear the report has been received well.
Also thank you for your suggestion on opening up a new thread about VIA Water, I will gladly do that. For now it might be nice to know that we are working on setting up a new webinar on faecal sludge: Jan Spit will again be our expert, and specifically we will be talking about the possibilities of resource recovery.
I will of course post more news (including the date) about this new webinar as soon as possible. We will also ask Jan to produce a similar report about this new webinar afterwards, and post the link here as well.
Kind regards,
Karin van der Weerd

Re: Join the VIA Water webinar on faecal sludge December 15th
Dear Karin and all,
Thanks for sharing the information about your webinar here. I can see that a report about the webinar is now available on your website here:
www.viawater.nl/news/report-on-the-faecal-sludge-webinar
As you mentioned, the recording didn't work so you had to produce an "oldschool report of the event". I actually think your report is very useful and possibly better than the recording, as many people don't have access to Youtube videos and reading over such a report is actually faster than listening to the recording... My suggestion is for future webinars to have both, recording and report (the report possibly being the more important part).
These were the questions were posed during the webinar; see Jan's answers to them in the link above:
1. What means ‘safe emptying’?
2. What is the time required in twin pit system for safe removal?
3. Can you also use a geo-bag (in comparison with bag in sheet 37)?
4. Is emptying of unlined pits possible?
5. Where do you leave the solid waste after fishing?
6. What do you do with menstrual hygiene product disposal?
7. What is your advice for septic tank construction in tropical areas in alluvial/coastal zone areas?
8. What kind of additives can you add to fluidize vast sludge?
Karin, could you also start a new thread where you introduce VIA Water to us and then use it to update is from time to time about your work? That would be super.
I see you're currently funding these six projects:

Regards,
Elisabeth

Re: Join the VIA Water webinar on faecal sludge December 15th
Dear Susanne,
well, that was what was meant to happen...unfortunately, the recording didn't work. We will be posting a report on the webinar on our website in the next few days (www.viawater.nl), which will include Jan Spit's presentation and the questions posed by participants + Jan's answers.
Hope that helps!
Kind regards,

Will the webinar be recorded and accessible afterwards? Technical problems and a missing admin keeps me from taking part in it right now...

VIA Water webinars on faecal sludge - second one on 18 February, recording now available
VIA Water is a Dutch programme that supports innovative projects that solve water problems in cities in seven African countries. We are organising a webinar on faecal sludge the 15th of December. Join us!
Many VIAWater projects work on the issue of faecal sludge, and take it a step further: how to make the best use of the faecal sludge, and change it from a stinky, dirty, unhealthy pile to a useful source for cooking, composting and energy? We want to highlight this important topic, and support our faecal sludge projects by organising a webinar with Jan Spit, our first VIA Water expert. We believe our project owners and others will be able to learn from each others questions and experiences.
Check out Jan's invitation in the short clip below. On the 15th, you will be able to find the link to the webinar on our website . Hope to see you on the 15th of December at 14:00 hours CET (UCT +1).
