Unseen Struggles of Sanitation workers — a short documentary

Between 2021 and 2024, SOPPECOM — a partner organisation on the Towards Brown Gold research project — examined sanitation access in Nanded, India, focusing on experiences of people who are marginalised.

In spite of implementation of a Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) programme, India’s ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, and achievement of open defecation free (ODF)+ and ODF++ status, significant questions remain about the socio-economic condition of sanitation workers in the city.

This short documentary highlights the challenging conditions faced by sanitation workers and the additional burdens they endure due to inadequate infrastructure.
