SFD side event @ 4th AfricaSan Conference in Dakar, Senegal

Dear all,

I would like to invite the ones attending AfricaSan in the coming week to join the side event in which the SFD approach will be presented and discussed.

The side event will take place on Wednesday, at 12h30 – 14h00, at Room Flamboyant in King Fahd Palace (conference venue).

Session objectives and description: The objective of this event is to introduce the SFD Promotion Initiative to practitioners and decision-makers contributing to a wider rollout of the approach. The event familiarizes participants with the tools and mechanisms and presents first results of the start-up phase of the SFD Promotion Initiative.
The event provides a comprehensive way to understand excreta management throughout the sanitation service chain in cities. It is also expected to lead to an acknowledgement of the relevance of Faecal Sludge Management.
SFDs (Faecal Waste Flow Diagrams often called Shit Flow Diagrams) are state-of-the-art visualization tools for advocacy and decision support that can be easily understood by non-technical stakeholders and civil society. SFDs have the potential to shift the focus of attention, money and activities towards more effective and inclusive urban sanitation and more efficient investments. The SFD Promotion Initiative is currently testing the approach in 50 cities worldwide and will disseminate the results via a web portal on the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance (SuSanA) platform later this year.

You can find more information about the SFD Promotion Initiative at www.susana.org/en/sfd .
