Applying Sustainability Tools for Cost Recovery and Sustainability Opportunities

The WASH and Learn Programme in East Africa is implementing the use of the Financial Institutional Environmental Technological Social sustainability principles combined with risk assessment and mitigation planning to achieve a problem solving mechanism. This mechanism is then further reinforced by cost recovery planning in which operation and maintainance needs are prioritied and cost recovery income generating strategies are made. When these are utilised effectively by the stakeholders (beneficiaries) sustainability opportunities emerge.

The WASH & Learn (W&L) Programme is a water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programme funded by Walking for Water 2016-2018, Rotary district 1570, Aqua for All and Waterloo Foundation (UFUNDIKO). Since 2016 the program has successfully made an impact towards sustainable school WASH in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania working with JESE, HEWASA and EMESCO (Uganda); CABDA (Kenya) and UFUNDIKO and TDFT (Tanzania).

Re: Applying Sustainability Tools for Cost Recovery and Sustainability Opportunities

Dear Linda,

Could you tell us a bit more about this project? Do you have a website link or a report to share?
I wasn't quite sure what the two images that you had attached were meant to tell us?

Perhaps you'd also like to add this programm to the SuSanA project database so that it's easier for others to find it in future. See here:
www.susana.org/en/knowledge-hub/projects/database

If so, who would be the project owner for this? Is there an NGO or Foundation that is receiving the funds by Walking for Water 2016-2018, Rotary district 1570, Aqua for All and Waterloo Foundation (UFUNDIKO)?

Regards,
Elisabeth

Re: Applying Sustainability Tools for Cost Recovery and Sustainability Opportunities

Dear Elisabeth,

Simavi is with support from Walking for Water 2016-2018, Rotary district 1570, Aqua for All and Waterloo Foundation, are implementing the WASH and Learn Programme in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. It is a 3 year programme - ending this year. But is proud of contributing to the realization of practical sustainable WASH measures, which we have shared (During the Uganda Water Week and WEDC).

I will be sharing a practice brief on the application of the risk assessment and cost recovery planning tools for sustainable WASH soon. I will add it as well as other practice briefs to the database as you have suggested.

Thanks,

Linda
