Re: Health and safety checklist for operators?

Hello rkaupp,

I read an article about workers' safety that emphasized the need to protect sanitation workers. It was saying that employers should provide more than just personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure the safety of these workers. It recommended implementing comprehensive safety protocols, offering financial protection, and encouraging vaccination. The Garima scheme booklet and NIOSH were suggested as resources for employers to follow in protecting essential workers.

Hello Remi
There is this document "safety protocols for Solid Waste Management" published by Aguatuya foundation, it is in spanish but may be useful. You can find it in this link:  www.aguatuya.org/documento/82

Re: Health & safety checklist for operators?

Hi Dorothee, thank you for sharing this.
It is very useful to see more detailed analyses of risks, though this is not what I am looking for directly; I am looking for actual procedures and systems in place that protect workers, from the operator perspective.
Of course such procedures and systems have to rely on these studies, so it's great to see this out there!
Thanks

Re: Health & safety checklist for operators?

Dear SuSanA Member
Herr rkaupp :

Very pleased to note your note and interest on the subject of safety of Workers.
I am also a vivid keen enthusiast in these aspects.

We have many accidents that occur, some fatalities also.
The safe operation and maintenance works are to be ensured at all times.
Need to allocate SWPs ie Safe Work Practices as done in other trades viz. HT Electricity Cable lines Workers Etc.

These rules and regulations are not laid out properly.
Even on instances where regulations are to be laid out and to be followed,  it is not done.

Due to this lapse,
it leads to mishaps and untoward- incidences.
Due safeguard need to be followed and ensured always done.

With well wishes and regards

Health and safety checklist for operators?

Hello,

I am a big fan of the Sanitation Workers project. I wanted to know if there are any known and public guides for sanitation operators (public or private) on how to protect their workers? Not just PPE but example procedures, schemes to protect employees financially, vaccines, etc.

For instance I know of the Garima scheme booklet with many examples (thanks Andrés for the suggestion). But otherwise many NSS guidelines focus on the systems to implement rather than the people delivering it.

Any good examples please?
Thank you
Rémi
