Great question.  We also talk about a model WASH training intuition in Malawi in our latest Waterlines paper (free to access):

Model training institutions for improved learning on sanitation in the global south context. (The Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute in India)

Hi SuSanA Users,

I just arrived at The Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute, an education and training initiative of CSE for the Policy and Practice Form 2023, and took a self-guided tour of the facility. The institution was established to communicate the science, complexity and politics of the environment across India, South Asia and the world, and it does exactly that at face value.  AAETI serves as a research, academic and capacity-building hub that conducts a number of short and long-term courses and training programmes.

The institute to complement the courses it offers has built on-site rainwater harvesting systems and decentralized wastewater treatment structures, energy-efficient self-sufficient systems that extend resourcefulness and environmental sustainability to the institution's onsite hostels that in turn feed its campus gardens from generated and treated waste.

Here is a video below and a few photos to put things into better perspective:

What other sector-specific training facilities are out there within the global south with a similar set-up and how have they made learning more practical for practitioners? When are courses offered and what is on offer?

Kind Regards,
Chaiwe
