I checked with a few manufacturers in China the availability of the plastic toilet seats. They could customize the seats in the pictures and the price is competitive. Their minimum order quantity is 200. If you are interested, I can bridge you with the supplier. Sam

Re: Reply: Low-cost toilet seats, toilet moulds and prefab toilet designs, What's new?
If you still haven't found UDDT toilet basins/seats locally in country, Cesar Anorve in Cuernavaca Mexico probably still has a workshop that makes and sells them.
If you fb friend me, i can put you in touch with them.
Facebook <www.facebook.com/david.bates4>
Also, I can do an educational video and consulting how to make them very simple provisional ones
You can make them locally for maybe on $25 US

Hi Chaiwe,
Thanks for your question about good practices for toilets. There's an answer to your question in references 3 & 4 on the last slide of the following presentation of October 2022, to the EU Tech Chamber Manufacturing Alliance, *Industrialization from the Grassroots.* There should be no need to import toilets to Africa! The glassy surface of ceramic toilets is incomparable as hygienic. drive.google.com/file/d/1UDscBPG7lbqm9wp...qT/view?usp=drivesdk
At my alma mater, the NY State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, eminent professors of ceramic engineering are in agreement about the sustainability of these toilets and ceramic interventions for industrial development. All the best, Reid

Re: Low-cost toilet seats, toilet moulds and prefab toilet designs, What's new?
Hello SuSanA Users,
Is anyone out there looking into new materials (recycled plastic, ceramic/ concrete alternatives etc.) in designing toilet seats and prefab toilet structures? I have looked up past conversations on the subject and the most recent conversations on this subject. See below a few conversation extracts:
1. The Earth Auger Toilet: urine-diverting composting toilet (Fundacion In Terris, Ecuador) - updates on progress - SuSanA Forum
2. Possible material and manufacturing process for readymade Ecosan (UDDT) pan - SuSanA Forum
3. Non-plastic removable container for UDDT (for project in Southern India) - Page 2 - SuSanA Forum
4. Open discussion on MOSAN toilet design - SuSanA Forum
I would be interested in discussing or hearing from organisations and individuals that are revolutionising the low-cost toilet seat design. Note I am not looking at UDDT. I am looking at designs that favour recycled/ environmentally friendly material, some but low water use, reduced waste disposal in pit, no smell.
It would also be great to get some contacts of toilet seat mould suppliers.
See below some common low-cost toilet seats that are currently in use/ are popular in Zambia and many surrounding countries in the sub-Saharan African region.

Re: Looking for a mould for producing UDDT locally in Moldova
WHERE TO GET A MOLD TO MAKE TOLIET BASINS FOR UDDT'S (Urine Diversion Dehydration Toilets)
Sorry for the delay....I am travelling in Asia...in process for returning to USA from Japan.
Here is the link to my dissertation abstract:
etd.lsu.edu/docs/available/etd-03312008-000156/
This is the link to my dissertation. In there are pictures in many places on the toilets, and the manufacturer of the toilet molds is in there with their catalog, and their contact information back in 2008. Just flipping through the report, you will easily find the pictures of the toilets and mold...recommend you look at all photos...they tell a story of the reality of implementation of "compost toilets" (urine diverting dehydration toilets - UDDT's)....and read what you wish, especially the abstract, introduction and conclusion. There are various tables and charts that are easy to read and quite revealing.
etd.lsu.edu/docs/available/etd-03312008-...ricted/Bates_dis.pdf
I will try to contact the manufacturer, confirm if their contact info reference above is still current, and see if they can ship you a mold and at what cost. They actually had a university make these molds out of fiberglass....not an easy process...and took years to refine the process... a process that we supported them with. The manufacturer/not for profit group has always been very reasonable in their costs and in supporting our organization and projects. The Architect's name who founded and runs their group is Cesar Anorve...look for him in my dissertation.
We need to discuss/confirm...exactly what you need.... a mold to make the basins, or how to make the mold itself...like I said a university made the sophisticated molds they use, but you can make the molds "by hand" in the field, which is how we started out.
More later,
Dr. David Bates

Below is a UD toilet I developed recently which can quite easily be made out of a bucket or buckets. The toilet unit (made out of a bucket) can be used with a pit system as well as simply set on top of a bucket. I hope to include more information soon if people are interested. It has a gate which nicely blocks the feces area and which needs to be and only should be opened when defecating. The gate is also made from the bucket while the handle of the bucket creates the hinge system. This link gives more information on this toilet system; liftupthepoor.net/SimSan.html
The upside down bucket is simply a riser and the waste would fall right on through into the pit.

Re: Looking for a mould for producing UDDT locally in Moldova
I know of a design to make UDDT's very inexpensively from locally-available materials, if that is your objective. To make them with a higher level of construction, I can get you a sophisticated mold also. Let me know what are your interest.

Dear Elisabeth,
just like to clarify that the concrete toilet seats are still beging produced in Kyrgyzstan and in use:
www.flickr.com/photos/gtzecosan/6820279776/
The challenge with these concrete toilets is to use a good paint so that they last long time without troubles. If the paint is not good or not properly applied, it might peel off and the toilet starts to smell.
Best regards
Claudia

Re: Looking for a mould for producing UDDT locally in Moldova
Greetings Claudia
Thanks for your response and sorry for delay, had a few issues to resolve over past 6 months.
I have decided to pursue the plastic squat pans for Myanmar installations
Still no joy in finding a supplier for these. Currently chasing up a few leads but best prospect is to get a die made for plastic injection and manufacture in the country. I just need to settle on a design.
If you know of any proven squat pan types id appreciate the link
Kind regards and thanks again

Re: Looking for a mould for producing UDDT locally in Moldova
I don't know much about these moulds, but I can help you with photos of moulds, maybe that helps.
I searched the SuSanA photodatabase by putting "mould" in the search field (www.flickr.com/photos/gtzecosan/collections/).
Here is what I found:
Mould used in Ecuador and Haiti:
mother mould for UDDS bowl by Sustainable sanitation , on Flickr
Mould used in Kyrgyztan by WECF (no longer used, Natalie pointed out):
production of UDDT seats in Chyrak resource center by Sustainable sanitation , on Flickr
Here in Zimbabwe, they don't use a mould as such but make a concrete pedestal by using a plastic bucket as a starting point:
Applying concrete on the bucket by Sustainable sanitation , on Flickr
Here in this picture guide, Peter Morgan explains how to make simple urine diversion pedestals from concrete:
susana.org/lang-en/library/library?view=...eitem&type=2&id=1000
Morgan, P., Shangwa, A. (2009). How to make simple pedestals - The Chisungu Primary School Water and Sanitation project. Ecological Sanitation Research (EcoSanRes), Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI).
Concrete squatting urine diversion pan, self-made (Burkina Faso):
Step 1: Construction of the cover plate by Sustainable sanitation , on Flickr
Step 2: Finishing by Sustainable sanitation , on Flickr
And an example from Bangladesh which looks really good to me (urine diversion squatting pan from concrete):
susana.org/lang-en/library/library?view=...eitem&type=2&id=1162
Terre des hommes (2010). Casting of Ecosan Pan - Bangladesh. Terre des hommes. childrelief - www.tdh.ch.
This is a simple photographic manual on how to cast a urine diversion squatting pan. It includes a technical drawing, pictures and few descriptions.
So maybe give up looking for a mould and just make it yourself, especially if the total number is still low initially.
Regards,
Elisabeth
