Re: Cylindrical septic tank
Dear Mr Nilaadri,
First of all, cylindrical tanks are circular in plan and hence they are very much covered under the Is codes referred by you. A Cylinder can not be anything but circular.
I had designed and manufactured number of cylindrical septic tanks way back in early 1980s.
A paper was published in Jan 1982 in Journal of Ferrocement " ferrocement Septic tanks by Gyan Sagar and A K Jain" on Page No 63 to 69.
I would be glad to share the same with you, if you so desire.
Ashok

Re: Cylindrical septic tank
Since septic-tanks are basically settling tanks the relevant parameters are the surface area (foot print) and depth. Thus such a tank should be quite comparable to a rectangular one of the same footprint but with less sludge storage volume and thus more frequently needed emptying.
A similar shape is also quite common for RFP or rotomolded plastic septic tanks.

Cylindrical septic tank
The IS Code of practice for installation of Septic Tank only talks about rectangular and circular septic tanks with various dimensions based on the user etc. Curious to know about cylindrical septic tanks which are mostly made of hume pipes and widely popular in Maharashtra. Cost wise this precast option seems pretty competitive and easy to install. I am however interested to know about its efficacy as a digester, pollution load remover ... in short advantages and disadvantages over other shapes. Any research out there? Thanks
