Dear all,
thank you for joining the SuSanA India Chapter meeting in Pune!
The seminar successfully connected different actors in the region and encouraged discussions on what this declaration of being ODF means in practice in the state of Maharashtra and elaborated strategies to make urban Maharashtra ODF+ or better.
I am happy to let you know that the recordings and all presentations of the meeting are now online at the SuSanA website and library:

SuSanA India Chapter Seminar: Towards ODF+ Urban Maharashtra
Pune, 18 November 2017, 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM
The Maharashtra State government has recently declared all cities to be open defecation-free. Under the Swachh Maharashtra Mission, started in 2015, the state had set out to achieve this by 2018, but has reached its goal earlier. As per the Government of India’s norms, this means all households have toilets and nobody defecates in the open.
The Ecosan Services Foundation, the India Sanitation Coalition and the SuSanA secretariat are organizing a seminar to analyse this achievement. It will explore ways to make urban Maharashtra ODF+ or better. This entails consolidating gains, safely and effectively collecting solid and liquid waste, faecal sludge management, and ensuring systems are in place and adequately resourced.
The seminar will present alternatives to the conventional approaches of pipes, pumps and plants for handling the rapidly-growing volumes of solid waste, sewage and faecal sludge that accompany urban growth and will discuss the needs for a holistic, city-wide planning approaches.
Agenda
Venue: Yashwantrao Academy of Development Administration, Raj Bhawan Complex, Baner road, Armament Colony, Ganeshkhind, Pune
I hope you can make it! Please visit the following link to register: www.susana.org/registration-susana-india-chapter-session, if you haven't already done so.
Warm regards

Dear all,
This year on 18-19 November, to mark the World Toilet Day, the Ecosan Services Foundation is organising an event in Pune called Sanivation 2017. ESF is a key member of the SuSanA India Chapter.
The two-day programme will have fun events and seminars on sanitation. A summary of the programme is given below. You can read more on the website, www.sanivation.in. The five events planned are
• Urgent Run : A marathon for creating awareness related to water and sanitation
• Udyama : B-Plan competition for the Sanipreneurs
• Nirmalikaran : Making a sani-plan for the campus
• Prasadhan : Encounter with a public toilet (a photo-story competition)
• Kalpayita : T shirt design competition
I am writing to request all interest SuSanA members to participate in this in a big way.
As a contribution to the SuSanA India Chapter we are planning a three hour discussion on “What next after ODF Urban Maharashtra”. Recently the state government declared all urban areas as ODF. This session will look at the situation on the ground and suggest what can be done to consolidate gains and next steps.
More information will follow soon.
Regards
Nitya
