Empowering Change: The Youth WASH Ambassadors Club

(Added by Moderator CMS) Introducing the Youth WASH Ambassadors Club

In a world where access to clean water, proper sanitation, and hygiene remains a challenge for many communities, young people are stepping forward as powerful agents of change. The Youth WASH Ambassadors Club is one such movement, driven by students and dedicated to advancing safe water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), and environmental sustainability.

Formed with the belief that youth are not only the leaders of tomorrow but also the change-makers of today, the club's purpose is clear:

To empower young people with knowledge, skills, and platforms to promote healthier lifestyles and sustainable practices in schools and communities.

Over the past months, the Youth WASH Ambassadors Club has established itself as a vibrant voice in the fight for clean water and sustainable development. Among its key achievements are school hygiene campaigns that have educated peers on handwashing, menstrual hygiene, and sanitation; active participation in the Kutuba campaign led by WaterAid Zambia; and advocacy contributions to national dialogues such as the Zambia Water Forum and Exhibition (ZAWAFE).

The club has also embraced innovation and practical action. Through backyard and school gardening projects, members link WASH to food security and climate adaptation, demonstrating how simple, sustainable practices can transform communities. By joining real sector interventions and initiatives like the FSM Action Research Project www.fsmaction.org in Lusaka, the club has given young people hands-on exposure to real-world sanitation solutions.

Beyond local action, the Youth WASH Ambassadors Club has amplified youth voices globally. Members have shared their experiences through international platforms such as Climate Creativity and the Loss and Damage Youth Coalition, highlighting how young people are driving climate adaptation and resilience. Social media campaigns like #Youth4SDG have further extended the club's impact, inspiring fellow youth to take action and join the movement.

At its core, the Youth WASH Ambassadors Club is fuelled by purpose: to create awareness, inspire behaviour change, and champion youth-led solutions that protect health, dignity, and the environment. With every campaign, project, and story shared, the club is proving that when young people come together with passion and vision, they can help build a healthier, cleaner, and more sustainable future for all.
