We also share the main takeaways of the webinar:
- An evaluation of the competence certification in Perú showed that there was a positive impact on the operator's attitude: more self-confidence, improves workers proactivity and they show more interest in enhancing their capacities
- Direct relationship with savings variables in the company
- Competence certification is more inclusive than formal academic certifications
- Assists in meeting state regulatory requirements
- A solid collaboration with governmental institutions, NGOs, academic institutions and normativity is required to make possible this kind of certification.

Competence certification for sanitation workers
The SuSanA Latin America team is organizing the webinar "Experiences of competency certification processes in Latin America", to have an opportunity to learn about the experiences of different countries and try to identify successful paths and processes, as well as failed ones.
The certification of labor competencies in the water and sanitation sector, which includes solid waste, is an inter-institutional effort between governments, government ministries and other institutions to recognize the capabilities of workers who have demonstrated in practice that they have reached the level of expert in the exercise of an occupation. In the case of Latin America, the target are mostly operators of treatment plants. The majority of workers achieve their training in empirical processes or in the school of life, often in the absence of training offer and continue their work over the years without recognition of their capabilities.
Could this be a way of enhancing the job of sanitation workers and contribute to be recognized as a well respected job? Is there a similar experience in Africa or India? The webinar will be held in Spanish, but if it is of interest for the other regions we could share some key takeaways in English and French later on this thread.
For Spanish speakers you can register on the webinar here .
