  • Sanitation is dignity and life. Through living and working 15 years in (Mozambique) where Cholera is endemic, the importance of sanitation became evident, furthermore it is clear that sanitation is more than an infrastructure

Proceedings of the Sarphati Sanitation Award ceremony from Amsterdam on Nov 5 are here:



Winners were Sanergy, IDE Cambodia and WTO Jack Sim.

Samual Sarphati was a medical doctor during the mid 1800s in Amsterdam. And set up an ecosan facility for the city that produced vegetables. He came back for the ceremony and gave a wonderful speech.

THE SARPHATI SANITATION AWARD
The Sarphati Sanitation Award is a biennial international award honouring the outstanding contribution of an individual or organisation to the global sanitation and public health challenge through entrepreneurship.

The first Sarphati Sanitation Award will be presented on 5 November 2013 during the International Water Week in Amsterdam. A person or an organization will be awarded the Sarphati Sanitation Award for a significant contribution to creating sustainable solutions in the field of sanitation and public health, preferably through entrepreneurship.

The Sarphati Sanitation Award will be bestowed by the mayor of Amsterdam, Mr Eberhart van der Laan, who is the honorary chairman of the award jury. The Sarphati Sanitation laureate will be presented with an award certificate, a figurine designed by the Dutch artist Marte Röling and a cash prize of 50,000 euros, sponsored by World Waternet (www.worldwaternet.com) and Aqua for All (www.aquaforall.nl).

The Sarphati Sanitation Award is an initiative of the Municipality of Amsterdam, Aqua for All and the Netherlands Water Partnership, and is endorsed by the Dutch Government.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
World Waternet and Aqua for All are calling for nominations for the Sarphati Sanitation Award 2013. Nominations must be made by qualified parties, such as leaders of international water companies or water utilities, eminent academics in the field of water research, policy and management, heads of international organisations, members of government, or distinguished individuals in the water and sanitation field.
Nominations must conform with the Nomination Guidelines and be submitted using the Nomination Form. A jury of three highly esteemed specialists in the field of water and sanitation will evaluate all submitted nominations and choose the prize winner.

The closing date for nominations is 15 September 2013
