Safe Sanitation Support for Typhoon Haiyan Survivors

Dear Friends,

The WAND Team is now gearing-up to support the survivors of the recent super-typhoon Haiyan that ravaged so many places here in the Philippines. Our support is in terms of providing safe sanitation via our ecosan toilets. We are veterans in this work having implemented the same during Typhoon Washi.

We are pre-fabricating the first toilet units to be installed in the area in our sanitation hub in Misamis Oriental since we anticipate great difficulty if we do this in the area. We will then use our 2 elf vehicles to transport the pre-fabricated units starting next week. One vehicle can load 20 pre-fabricated units. We will bring with us 6 expert carpenters and masons. They will constitute the core team. In the sites we will hire additional carpenters and helpers to team with each of our expert carpenters and masons. In addition to the builders, I will bring 3 expert trainers, veterans during Typhoon Sendong. They will train the local people who will eventually take care and manage the systems.

Once in the area, additional units will be pre-fabricated. We already have contacts in Ormoc and Tacloban Cities and they said we can use their places/backyards for the pre-fab activities.

I had a discussion with Rory Villaluna, the head of the National WASH Team directly handling sanitation work in Tacloban and Ormoc and all affected areas. They have people on the ground and they handle and manage all sanitation concerns. Rory is an old contact regarding sanitation work we are doing. We will directly work with them so there is no overlap.

We are marshalling all needed support. A good friend Robert Gensch has established a donation platform at,

Hoping for your kind response.

Very sincerely yours,

Elmer

Dear Trevor and All Friends,

Warm greetings from the Philippines and thanks so much for the notice. Right now we are mobilizing our resources and asking people to help. Our global giving site is taking in so much donations already. Rob Gensch, a good friend cc'd here said he will do what he can via the German Toilet Organization. So is Jack Sim of the World Toilet Organization. We are now pre-fabricating the toilets, ecosan and pour-flush. Next week we will start constructing in the devastated sites.

Yours, Elmer
