Happy to share the completion and publication of a year long field research on large dense unplanned settlements, water and waste water challenges. Sangam Vihar is a one million plus, unplanned settlement in Delhi, and its 13 Blocks are spread in only 5 sq km area.

We believe this is one of the few researches out there that is based on primary data collection at scale, for a large dense unplanned settlement in India. Followed by a meta analysis of findings of primary data and its referencing with a critique of urban planning principles and the Master Plan Delhi 2041(water section).
And finally validating a way forward that emerged out of the study organically - Decentralised water supply from nearby 4 big lakes(linking with treated waste water from STPs), and a combination of partial retrofitting to existing sewer system, and a justification for new decentralised STPs in the vicinity of Sangam Vihar.

The primary study with its grounded research methodology, rich data sets included in this report, and findings and conclusions - will be useful for students, researchers, universities, water and sanitation professionals, practitioners, experts and policymakers.
