The Latest WIN-SA publications on faecal sludge management or on-site sanitation
Hi.
I have some of the latest WIN-SA publications attached - the publications cover some of the work being done in Africa. If you interested in faecal sludge management or on-site sanitation, some of these articles should be useful.
There are couple of interesting reads.
1. The first is using social franchising as a means to standardise water services. The concept is similar to that of fast food chains - you usually except a similar food menu/service - the social franchising concept is similar in that quality of water services rendered would be similar. A pilot was conducted in the Eastern Cape for school sanitation where a large water service provider acted as franchisee. The pilot was successful and will now be extended to 1,000 more schools.
2. The second focuses on sewering of informal areas. The case studies were in the Western Cape. This publication gives some useful lessons and will be on interest to those wishing to use simplified sewerage systems.
3. This publication looks at the bucket eradication programme in South Africa.
