New! Using visual methods for community-led change

Participatory action is at the heart of visual methods. Working directly with individuals and communities, visual methods can take various creative and immersive forms — performance, video, creative writing, music and photography.

In the  Towards Brown Gold project , we worked with Brahmin, Kshatriya, Tharu, Madhesi and Muslim people in Gulariya, Nepal, using photovoice and photo-elicitation. We aimed to build a bank of knowledge based on the communities’ lived experiences from different perspectives, and how they engage with water and sanitation systems.
