Planted Drying Beds for treatment of FS
Dear All,
I would like to inform you of a recent publication from the NCCR North-South program, the second regional policy brief for West Africa, titled "Productive treatment of faecal sludge: from waste to fodder and profits".
Although implementation of this technology is reasonably well known for wastewater sludge in Europe and the US, relatively little information is available for faecal sludge treatment in tropical regions. The brief has information on case studies in Cameroon and Thailand, where there have been long-term field studies on planted drying beds. This treatment technology is attractive because it is low-cost, easy to maintain, and has the added value of producing crops that can be sold as fodder.
