Dear Mintje,
Thank you for your response. Yes, I'll be glad to share the findings of the publication, at the link, you mentioned.
The best thing I liked about this publication is that, despite being a short publication (11 pp), it has an excellent list of references.
Regards,
F H Mughal

Re: Starting Soon: TDS 12 "Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in Schools - A neglected issue"
Thank you for this Point of view!
The following topics are thought to serve more as background information.
What we have done so far in WG7 around MHM;
Preparatory Readings for our Thematic Discussion on "MHM in Schools - A neglected issue";
Running Now: TDS 12 "Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in Schools - A neglected issue"
The discussion is supposed to only happen in Theme I and Theme II.
For this week, the discussion on "Exploring how to address on-going taboos and silence around MHM for girls in School" started here and next Monday we will start another Topic on infrastructure and Monitoring in Theme II.
The idea is, that like this the two topics can continue to be discussed at the same time.
It would be great if you share some findings of the Share publication in our discussion of this week (bit.ly/2n9JLkv)!
Regards,
Mintje

Dear Mintje,
Many thanks for informing us about the MHM TDS. I look forward to beginning the discussion. During the 1st week session, I hope that we can also focus on restrictions of some MHM products vis-a-vis specific cultural beliefs and taboos.
Many thanks and best regards,
Doreen

Running Now: TDS 12 "Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in Schools - A neglected issue"
Dear Forum Members,
We are excited to announce our 12th Thematic Discussion on the topic of
“Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in Schools – A neglected issue”
Starting on Monday, March 27, we invite you to join our 2 weeks discussion on how to address taboos and barriers regarding Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM), which is part of SuSanA's Thematic Discussion Series (TDS).
While nowadays the topic is gaining more and more attention, it has widely been neglected in the past. SDG4 (education), SDG5 (gender equality) and SDG6 (water and sanitation) require female friendly sanitation facilities and available informational materials (on MHM) at schools around the globe.
Taking into account the magnitude of the population affected by issues around MHM, schools provide an ideal environment to reach girls and young women and to address taboos and misconceptions in a culturally sensitive manner.
The question, however, is how to approach the topic in a culturally sensitive manner?
Running for two weeks from Monday March 27 to Sunday April 09, we will structure our discussion along two topics:
Theme I - Breaking the taboo around MHM (March 27- April 02)
Thematic Lead: Dr. Marni Sommer (Associate Professor, Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health)
Theme II - Infrastructural barriers and how to monitor MHM (April 03 - April 09)
Thematic Lead: Thérèse Mahon (Regional Programme Manager South Asia, WaterAid)
Follow the links above to be directed to the respective topics. For both topics, the experts will provide leadership, food for thought and a profound insight into the topic. Questions raised by Forum Users will also be addressed.
During the discussion, regular summaries of forum entries will be posted to keep you updated on our conversation.
Coordination and support to the SuSanA secretariat with this thematic discussion will be done by Katrin Dauenhauer (Independent consultant), Jan Schlenk (GIZ), and Mintje Büürma (GIZ). For any questions, please post on the forum or contact us directly at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
We look forward to your contributions and an enriching discussion on MHM in Schools.
Kind regards,
Mintje Büürma
