The Holistic Menstrual Health and Hygiene Model
I am sharing the Holistic Menstrual Health and Hygiene Model developed under Cause Effect Initiative Limited (CEIL) to support practitioners with interest in menstrual hygiene and health for the girl child.
The Holistic Menstrual Health and Hygiene Model gives a pathway to give a comprehensive effect that will boost the esteem, psychosocial development, menstrual health, menstrual hygiene and personal health plus hygiene.
In using this model service providers and psychosocial actors see the level of intervention needed to achieve the esteem, psychosocial development, menstrual health, menstrual hygiene and personal health plus hygiene a girl requires.
The model shows that menstrual health and hygiene is holistic when both hygiene and health components are tackled. Its not just about the infrastructure (water, sanitary facilities and water supply) but also the psychosocial structures (counselling, nutrition, sanitary materials and pain management) in place.
The components that increase the potential for success are the root sources (parents and schools) whose efforts are further amplified by service deliverers (government and NGOs).
