Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing (PPPHW) Advocacy

Dear All

A Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing (PPPHW) Advocacy

Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion in Schools Campaign - 1 million posters

According to the World Bank, 6,000 children die every day from diseases associated with inadequate sanitation, poor hygiene, and unsafe water. Diarrhea alone kills one child every 20 seconds. To reduce the transmission of the deadly bacteria that cause diarrhea, people need an understanding of the disease transmission process and the steps that can break it, such as washing their hands at critical times.

It has also been found that schools may be better locations in which to enforce certain behaviours in children than the home. Schools can also provide an arena where sanitation can be shown at its best, and certain positive hygienic behaviours (hand washing with soap before eating and after going to the toilet) can become an engrained habit at a young age.

Teachers in Africa face major challenges, including lack of resources such as materials for promoting awareness in handwashing with soap to change pupils’ behaviours.

In awareness creation, changing hygiene and sanitation practices require more than a lecture to deliver the benefits to children for it may involve diagrams or illustrations for education, awareness raising and personal behaviour change.

The Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing (PPPHW) urges you to act this January and February to advocate for handwashing and hygiene as you may be aware that Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will be ending in 2015.

In line with this, being partners in development, you are invited to collaborate with us in printing one million posters for promoting awareness in handwashing to 26.7 million school children in 49,552 primary schools in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Rwanda ,Zimbabwe and Zambia. The posters will be printed both in English language and Kiswahili which Is the lingua franca in much of East Africa.

In this respect, we kindly request you for a sponsorship of only US $ 2,500 (two thousand five hundred) as part cost to print, consign and distribute the posters in these countries. The campaign will save lives, improve students’ poor performance in education and school drop-out especially for girl.

As a matter of courtesy and appreciation, we shall acknowledge the sponsorship by inserting your logo and name and mention the partnership(for business donors) on the poster so that you may enjoy a commendable and value added corporate image.
