Re: UN adopts 19 November (World Toilet Day) as Official UN Day !!

What exciting news and what a great opportunity to connect on that day!
At x-runner we are planning an open house event in our hub here in Lima for individuals, partners, friends, organizations, and more. We will host compost tours and show our new toilets. We want people here in Lima to understand how dry sanitation can work in a very attractive and professional way.
As there will be many other events going on all over the world (offline and online) it would be wonderful to have a platform where organizations, enterprises and projects could post these (videos, pictures - somebody would have to curate the site). By doing so, we can create an exciting overview of the amount of opportunities that exist or are in the working in the alternative sanitation sector today.

Re: UN adopts 19 November (World Toilet Day) as Official UN Day !!

Dear all,

The following video features Jack Sim and his vision on the importance of looking at the poor as customers, and the big breakthrough that could result from that. As already mentioned by Jack, turning sanitation into business is a feasible way to wider sanitation coverage.

Please share your thoughts and ideas on how to celebrate World Toilet Day on 19 November!

Kind regards,

SuSanA Secretariat

Hello
I have an idea that focused on the poor families and marginal groups who started use toilet during 2012 and continued till today. the idea is to learn from poor families about their expression that created due to availability of toilet for them. then , we should collect photos for interviewees and publish a booklet of success stories. this can be repeat every year and use to encourage the process of install toilet for poor families.

  • Sanitation is dignity and life. Through living and working 15 years in (Mozambique) where Cholera is endemic, the importance of sanitation became evident, furthermore it is clear that sanitation is more than an infrastructure

Re: UN WTO

Dear Jack ,

This is just great!
What a year for us; Peter Morgan is WWW prize laureate and now Jack managed to get World Toilet Day to become a UN day.

How did you celebrate UN World Toilet Day 19 Nov. 2013 (and media report for 2012)

Hello SuSanA,

-The UN General Assembly has adopted 19 Nov World Toilet Day as an Official UN Day.

-Let's leverage on this highest legitimacy for our work. The taboo is officialy broken and I am very proud to be working with SuSanA as partners on this journey.

-Let's prepare now to celebrate World Toilet Day in all ways to effectively mobilize resources for proper sanitation coverages. We can mobilize local celebrities, politicians, NGOs, schools and people to celebrate the toilet and in doing so elevate the status of the Toilet as an object of desire.

-One of the best and most sustianable ways is to turn Sanitation into business. The experience of SaniShop micro-franchising has proven that the poor are entrepreneurial and we can create jobs while delivering sanitation systems ar very low cost made with local material with aspirational status.

-I'll need all your ideas of how you see we can capitalize on this opportunity.

Looking forward to hear your thoughts.

I want to work closely with SuSanA.
