Out of Nigeria’s estimated population of 200m in 2019 (UN, 2019), only 29% (53m) have access to improved sanitation facilities, 24% (44m) use shared latrines; 22% (40m) use unimproved facilities, and 25% (45m) defecate in the open, according to the WHO//UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP) report 2017.
Nigeria's Federal Government launched a National Action Plan (NAP) for Revitalizing the Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and declared a State of Emergency in WASH in August 2018 which outlines a 18-month emergency plan, a five-year recovery plan and a 13-year revitalisation strategy, towards ensuring all Nigerians have access to sustainable and safely-managed WASH services by 2030, towards achieving SDGs for Water (Goal 6.1) and Sanitation (Goal 6.2)
Bread of Life Development Foundation, a Nigerian WASH NGO is convening this Webinar to identify challenges and review progress made in the implementation of the 18 month emergency plan which lapsed in January 2020, as well as other components of the NAP.

It will feature a review of NAP by Bread of Life; keynote presentation by Engr. Benson Ajisegiri, Director, Water Supply and PPP, Federal Ministry of Water Resources, (FMWR), Abuja; and questions and answers from participants comprising civil society, journalists, WASH professionals, WASH practitioners from Federal and State Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, and other WASH sector players. The outcome of discussions will be circulated online.
