Role and Responsibilities
To develop, lead, monitor and evaluate the WASH programme portion of the country programme. To provide capacity building for national and international staff; leading on all WASH elements of proposals and reports. Coordinating and networking at senior level with national and regional WASH authorities and other NGOs. Championing best practice (international and Medair) in all WASH programmes.
Project Overview
Multi-sectoral relief and rehabilitation programme including: provision of primary and emergency health care, water, sanitation and hygiene, non-food items, and emergency shelter to assist in reducing morbidity and mortality in vulnerable populations of South Sudan.

Key Activity Areas
WASH Project Management
- In consultation with the Country Director and Deputy County Director Programmes, develop and maintain relationships with UN, NGOs, donors, partners and other stakeholders, with the objective of raising public awareness of Medair and ensuring good cooperation and partnerships.
- Responsible for managing the relationship with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, and engaging in national and WASH cluster related activities / issues.
- Represent Medair South Sudan in WASH-related meetings in Juba and in the field.
- Recommend new programme initiatives, and implementation strategy.
- Responsible for technical input in project proposal development and donor reports.
- Responsible for technical input in planning and implementation of WASH programmes.
- Responsible for finalising and reviewing the beneficiary portions of new WASH project budgets as well as reviewing all WASH beneficiary expenditures in liaison with the WASH project manager(s).
- Give sector specific narrative and statistical input to WASH reports for Medair and donor agencies.
- Liaison with the HQ Water, Hygiene, and Sanitation Advisor during strategy and proposal development.
- Degree in civil engineering or in a related field
- 2 years of experience in WASH in a developing country
- Experience in training / mentoring staff
- Experience at cross-cultural communication techniques
- Self-motivated and able to take responsibility
- Able to take the initiative in project decisions
- Diplomatic and sensitive to cross cultural issues.
- Capacity to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Planning, assessment and analytical skills
- At ease in report writing; Able to express views clearly
- Strong relational skills; Open minded, self-controlled, self-learner and flexible
- Creative, open minded, flexible, honest
- Experienced professionals in a relevant field

- Overseas intercultural experience
- Working knowledge of English (spoken and written)
- Working knowledge of French (spoken and written) for French-speaking roles
- Single or married (with no children under 18). If married, your spouse must also apply.
- Competent with Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Successful completion of Medair Relief & Rehabilitation Orientation Course (ROC)
- Reflect the vision and values of Medair when interacting with team members, local staff, beneficiaries and external contacts
- Able to live and work with a multicultural team under difficult conditions
- Strong character traits, including emotional stability, adaptability, ability to handle stress, cultural and gender sensitivity, honesty, and physically fit
- A salary based upon the grade of the position and the experience of the position-holder
- Full briefing at our Swiss headquarters, as well as an in-country briefing
- Security training for those going to particularly insecure environments

- Majority of work is in an office setting in Juba, where Medair has an office / team house.
- Living conditions in the house are basic.
- Supervision visits to the field are needed, where working and living is extremely basic.
