Research Officer: CLTS Knowledge Hub at IDS

The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) is a leading global charity for research, teaching and information on international development, based in Brighton.

We are currently seeking a Research Officer to join the expanding CLTS (Community-led Total Sanitation) Knowledge Hub, a small but busy team committed to supporting Community-led Total Sanitation to go to scale with quality and in a sustainable manner, and to accelerate its spread. We are looking for someone with fresh ideas, perspectives and energy who will help us make our activities more wide-reaching and effective.

The Research Officer role entails action learning and networking (through country visits as well as virtual communications) to stay up to date with CLTS practice in different countries and by different organisations and to extract learnings for dissemination to the global CLTS and sanitation community. Communication activities such as the production and dissemination of publications, and the gathering of content for the CLTS website form another major part of the role. The Research Officer will represent the Hub at national and international conferences and events, strengthening and developing relationships with other key players in the sector, and enhancing the Hub's international presence.

Applicants should have a Masters degree or equivalent professional qualification in development studies or a related field, along with excellent verbal, writing and editing skills in English, with the ability to summarise and communicate complex information in clear language for diverse audiences. In depth knowledge and/or practical experience of CLTS including its approach, methodology, evolution and current debates is essential, as is CLTS-related field-based or research experience. In addition, fluency in French or Hindi would be an advantage, as well as experience of facilitating participatory workshops.
