Re: Process of making poultry feed by use of Black Soldier Fly mixing kitchen waste and toilet sludge

Hi David

We are setting up a Black Soldier Fly plant in Durban at present and hope to have it up and running by mid year 2016. Perhaps you could visit us then to have a look at the processes.

You could liaise with someone who is running a plant at the moment in Cape Town who could give you some information on what is required to set up a BSF plant to produce chicken feed. It is a complex process and the steps required to convert the mature larvae to chicken feed may have some IP issues. He is Mark Lewis of Agriprotein and his e-mail address is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Process of making poultry feed by use of Black Soldier Fly mixing kitchen waste and toilet sludge

Dear All,

Is there any possibility somebody can come on board and guide me on how to produce poultry(broiler chicken)feed.

I am from one of the rural areas of South Africa where we use pit toilets and as have been reading about an opportunity to have a safe environment by pit latrine waste treatment into feed for our chicken and promotion of economic development.

What am saying is the process and method that can be used with black soldier fly and cost involved to set up a small facility for the same.

Kind regards

Dr David Bachelors
