Re: Tree bogs

Thank you Susannah. I have seen this video and the one they made about turning the farm away from fertilizer and unsustainable methods. I think I can find them through the Sustainability Centre.
I really appreciate your input.

Re: Tree bogs

This article in Permaculture magazine by Tim Green explains the system, but I don't know where it was located.

Searching for Treebog as one word might be worth a try.

Re: Tree bogs

Many thanks. This is just what I am looking for. And I've never been to Denmark. I think a trip may be necessary!

Re: Tree bogs

Dear Elizabeth,

I have visited an Eco-Village, Økosamfundet Dyssekilde, Denmark, which uses willow trees for wastewater cleaning: www.dyssekilde.dk/uk/node/144. I do not have details of how their system is functioning there (I was there for non-sanitation related reasons at the time, about 2 years ago), but they have a contact page on their website: www.dyssekilde.dk/uk/node/68, where they might be able to provide some details.

Good luck!

Re: Tree bogs

Thank you, Juergen. I have seen this website and I have tried twice to contact them. No luck so far. I may have to just turn up on their doorstep.
Your questions/concerns are valid, but there are many situations where any kind of toilet would be an improvement, even if it is not perfect.
Best wishes,
Elizabeth

might provide you an answer;

having checked the HP, to me it leaves quite a few questions unanswered (e.g., selection of nutrients by the trees, resistance to some elements / bacteria contained in the outflow from latrines, vegetation breaks during winter an peak consumption, ...),

but do not hesitate to contact the inventor of the wetland-technology,

regards,

Juergen

Tree bogs

Good afternoon,

Does anyone know anything about the British invention known as the tree bog, which is basically an above ground latrine surrounded by fast growing trees such as willows which absorb the excrement as fast as it is produced. I have read about them, including that there are some 3000 around Britain, but no one can tell me where.

It seems a fantastic idea, but I cannot be sure until I have seen at least one in operation, and talked to the users.
I would appreciate any leads.
