New sanitation publications from WHO and UNICEF

Dear colleagues,

On World Toilet Day, WHO and UNICEF released two new publications which may be of interest. They include:

Steps to achieve universal access to safely managed sanitation: This document supports country-level implementation of sanitation initiatives aimed at promoting access to climate-resilient safely managed sanitation services. It serves as a resource for WHO and UNICEF country offices to work effectively with national, sub-national, and local counterparts in implementing the WHO Guidelines on Sanitation and Health and UNICEF Game Plan to Reach Safely Managed Sanitation (2022–2030).  The implementation steps outlined here promote stronger alignment of sanitation activities among sector partners, including UN agencies, civil society organizations, the private sector, and academia.  www.who.int/publications/m/item/steps-to...y-managed-sanitation

Sanitation inspections: user guide: Sanitation inspections are short, standardized checklists to assess risks at or near sanitation facilities and to recommend actions to protect public health. This document provides tools and examples for applying sanitation inspections in various contexts, including regulatory reporting, household surveys to monitor sanitation progress, and local evaluations of systems sustainability—particularly following community-led total sanitation initiatives - to identify risks in toilet facilities built during these programmes and inform necessary upgrades to meet safety standards.  www.who.int/publications/m/item/sanitati...pections--user-guide

With kind regards,

Dave
