Introducing IPStar B.V.: a new partner organisation of SuSanA
We would like to welcome IPStar B.V. as new SuSanA partner organisation.
The following text is taken directly from their application form and was written by the partner organisation themselves.
Description:
IPSTAR is the technology transfer agent for the European Space Agency MELiSSA research program. The acronym MELiSSA is short for \'Micro-Ecological Life Support Alternative\' and is a development program of a microbiological and horticultural plant based closed loop ecosystem. The system is used for regenerative life support systems for long-term space missions to lunar bases or flights to Mars. IPStar’s mission is to stimulate and facilitate the commercialization of primarily know-how and intellectual property generated within the MELiSSA consortium consisting of an international group of renowned universities and institutes and to enhance and foster linkages between the MELiSSA research community and industry.
Activities in Sustainable Sanitation:
The basis of MELiSSA is the treatment, recovery and recycling of edible biomass, water and oxygen from human waste and carbon dioxide. The scale and advanced stage of technologies that have been developed to overcome the numerous technical challenges is substantial. Many of these solutions directly impact and present solutions to environmental issues on earth. Examples include: optimized water treatment systems, sanitation systems, recycling of waste, controlled crop growth.
Expectations in the Partnership:
Exchange of information and collaboration in order to advance the common goals in this case the availability of efficient sanitation systems.
Contribution to SuSanA:
We are in a position to provide in depth know-how and solutions to help resolving challenges related to the development of stand-alone low maintenance and low energy sanitation systems.
