Dear Khrallaxman.

As far as possible , HH treatment and safe disposal to be ensured with FSM, SWM, WWT and their management in compliance with regional Environmental regulations and standards.

Re use of both solid and liquid wastes duly converted to resources, may be clubbed with waste management principles and practices.

If the above indicated are carried out communities gain confidence on all these sustained practices.

There is a lot to gain environmentally socially and on economic condideration.

All the practices afforded could be with greening of spaces which uplifts the facilities and adds on aesthetics Etc..

Well wishes.

Re: To develop a Social Behaviour Change Strategy in a City what should be the processes?

Hi all,
Very interesting. Recently I have done a WASH baseline cum "RANAS" and "social marketing behavioral determinants" survey on two behaviors of "household water treatment" and "hand washing with soap" in three municipalities of Bardiya district of Nepal. Thought this is not on FSM and SWM, if you may wish to know how i designed the assessment i could share my draft report. And for the intervention design based on the survey I will be working in the coming months. Regards.

Hi Zigazie,

Really nice suggestion from your end regarding SBCC Strategy development, I would surely look into the details and recommendations by you. However, I do need some presentation on SBCC in Practical context - How to assess need, Plan strategy, implementation, review/evaluation etc. I want some case studies as well. As I have some important assignment from the Government, so I want to give best out of me.

hope you understand. Thank you again for your time and good suggestions. This forum is really helpful.

Re: To develop a Social Behaviour Change Strategy in a City what should be the processes?

Hallo. My thinking is that you might need to have two seperate strategies one for solid waste management and the other one for FSM considering that these are two broad topics with different dynamics though they might share some common aspects. You will then need to startbby understanding the current practices related to the two including the challenges being faced and this can be through a baseline or KAP study. You then need to prioritize the practices or behaviour you need to address since youncant solve every problem. You will then do a behaviour determinant study to inderstand why people or institutions are behaving the way you would have identified in the initial assessment. For this you can use a number of behaviour change theories to guide you e.g the health belief model, RANAS, BCD etc. From this you will then decide on how to address the identified determinants and depending on your target group this can be through advocacy, social or comunity mobilisation, IPC among other strategies. This whole process you do with your stakeholders and you agree on the implementation plan then you go. You can also see the proceed precede planning model by Green and Kreuter

Re: To develop a Social Behaviour Chanage Strategy in a City what should be the processes?

Resp. Sujoy sir,

I completely agree with you. 1st generation school goers certainly holds the baton as entry point to community, especially tough nuts. Here I see need of convergence as a strategic significance at state level. Swachhagrahi should be encouraged to visit schools. Once streamlined at top, it can then be pursued to be demystified at district level as part of rolling work plan. Child cabinets at school with other students can observe village sanitation status & OD incidents (open defecators) and with advocacy support from Swachhagrahi CC should reach out to village meeting presenting their observation. It will bring shame as well as concern to dwellers.
